Even though some of the lowest points of their relationship were aired on national television, it's still somehow shocking news that Luann and Tom D'Agostino are divorcing. Considering that this relationship has been so public, what's not shocking is that people are already cracking jokes and making memes. But while it's easy to say you "saw this coming" after seeing what was presented on Real Housewives of New York City, saying "I told you so" about Luann's divorce still isn't OK.

Luann announced the divorce herself via tweet, writing, "It's with great sadness that Tom & I agreed to divorce. We care for each other very much, hope you respect our privacy during this sad time!"

Luann is being open about her divorce. She's keeping her fans informed when she doesn't really have to. She's made herself so vulnerable, and in response fans are tweeting up a storm of jokes about the divorce. Some people might be trying to be humorous and not straight up mean, but it's important to remember that Luann is a human being and not a fictional TV character. Her life may be up for public consumption, but cut her a break. She's already struggling enough right now.

Luann clearly tried everything she could to make her relationship work. During the Season 8 trip to Miami, Bethenny Frankel showed Luann photos of Tom with another woman at The Regency on the day before their engagement party. At the time, Luann prophetically said, "Please don't let it be about Tom," and from that point on it was always about Tom, and Luann has done nothing but defend him and their relationship.

In a Season 9 episode that aired earlier this year, Bethenny Frankel broke down crying at Dorinda Medley's Berkshires house this season when she was warning Luann about marrying Tom mere weeks before the wedding. During the same trip, Dorinda came to Luann with the allegations and opinions the other cast members had against Tom, and told her, "I would rather come to you directly. So I want you to know, do you trust him?" In response, Luann said, "I totally trust him 100 percent.”

After the episode with The Regency incident aired, Luann told People, "I'm not going to let a stupid kiss ruin the rest of my life." She added, "I know in my heart of hearts that he loves me." And even as recently as mid-July, Luann was still defending her marriage in the press. She told People in response to marriage problem rumors, "Tom and I are in love, and marriage takes work. We are working on this together."

To the people who think "this is her own fault" or "she ignored all the obvious signs," you're not in the minority with those thoughts. Most of her fellow Housewives and even fans of the show tried to warn her, so she probably feels even worse now that the divorce filing is official. She's been through a lot when it comes to defending herself already, so there's no need to rub it in.

There's nothing to be gained from putting someone down, let alone when they are already at a low point. This breakup has to be a major hit to Luann's heart and pride, so just give her some slack. And if you're really just looking for something to laugh at, rewatch the clip of her falling in the bushes during the cast trip to Mexico. That's something she's fine with laughing at too.
