Tommy Oliver Could Join 'Power Rangers'
Fans of the Power Rangers franchise, from original series Mighty Morphin Power Rangers to spinoff series like Power Rangers Megaforce, Power Rangers Galaxy, and Power Rangers Rescue, might have noticed that the new film is missing something. The just-released movie stars Dacre Montgomery as the Red Ranger, Naomi Scott as the Pink Ranger, RJ Cyler as the Blue Ranger, Ludi Lin as the Black Ranger, and Becky G. as the Yellow Ranger. But there's one color that's conspicuously absent from that lineup: green, the color of Tommy Oliver a.k.a. the Green Ranger. This begs this question: will Tommy Oliver be in the Power Rangers sequel?
What Power Rangers sequel, you may be asking? Oh, fair reader, don't be naive. There's gonna be a sequel. In fact, if the first movie does well, producer Haim Saban told Variety in an interview that after the release date on March 24, "on March 25 we’ll have the first story meeting for Movie No. 2.” And even beyond that, he revealed that the filmmakers "already have a six-movie story arc" planned for the series. So, that sure leaves plenty of room open for introducing good old Tommy Oliver.
Tommy Oliver, as any good Power Rangers fan will recall, is basically the ultimate Power Ranger dreamboat cool guy. He enters the series a few episodes in, after the other Rangers have been established, as the new student at Angel Grove High School. He's immediately impressive, and his special green Ranger suit has these ultra-cool gold accessories that put him at the front of the class, fashion-wise, as well.
Spoilers ahead! In the new Power Rangers movie, there's no sign of Tommy. However, there's a pretty critical post-credits scene that seems to set up a promising future for fans of the standout Ranger. The scene is set in an Angel Grove High School classroom during detention, a place that pretty much all the Rangers are forced to visit throughout the new movie. The teacher in charge of detention is doing role call and what do you know, the name that rolls off her tongue is indeed "Tommy Oliver." Except, Tommy doesn't call back. And so she says it again, and he doesn't call back. And then, the camera pans to an empty desk with a jacket draped across it in the color...green. I know. I know.
Tommy has always been one to make an entrance, so this is the perfect way to introduce him and pique our interest in the sequel. Tommy, can you hear me? I'm here for you.
