Three Bustle Editors On How La Roche-Posay’s Effaclar Line Gives Them Clear Skin

Blast blemishes with this dermatologist-recommended skin-care range.

Adult acne can be the bane of our lives. Just when we thought our skin was immune from pesky blackheads, pus-filled blisters and painful under-the-skin blemishes, here they are quite literally trying to ruin our lives. But, if you feel like you’re alone in this, you’re not. In fact, adult acne is extremely common, with about 95% of people aged 11 to 30 affected to some extent, and this is even more prevalent during colder days, where our complexion can feel and look dehydrated and dry.

If you suffer from Acne you should try and speak to your GP or dermatologist – its worth taking the time to care for your skin as Acne can also cause long term scarring and pigmentation . But if you are looking for daily skin solutions, La Roche-Posay, a favourite among beauty lovers, has come to the rescue. Its Effaclar range has been formulated specifically for oily and acne-prone skin in both adults and teenagers. Containing powerhouse ingredients such as niacinamide and salicylic acid, which work to reduce the causes of spots, blackheads and reduce shine, the Effaclar skin-care range remains one of the best topical products for irritated, blemish-prone skin.

Still need convincing? Below, three Bustle editors – all with different skin types and needs – took a deeper dive into the La Roche-Posay Effaclar range, to learn why they’ve found the perfect formulas.

Sam

I don’t know if it is the chill in the air and the dehydrating effects of heating indoors (or, you know, age) but my main skin concerns these days are hydration and fine lines. And though I am assiduous about cleansing and moisturising, I try to steer clear of anything too rich or heavy. From past experience, I know my pores just can’t handle it. Enter: La Roche-Posay’s Effaclar Serum and Duo+. The serum I apply at night time, followed by Duo+ Serum treatment which also weaves its way into my morning routine, followed by SPF (Antihelios 50+) as the serum’s acids make skin more susceptible to sun damage.

Salicylic acid, LHA, and glycolic acid do work wonders though, and the serum means I wake up with skin that feels renewed and refreshed. The morning boost of moisturiser feels like it carries on that important work, adding a protective layer of glycerin for the day. After a week I notice my pores are clearer and tighter, and those threatening blemishes are vanishing (thank you, niacinamide). Fine lines feel fainter, too. The idea of a “daily peel” sounded terrifying to start, but seeing the results now I can say I’m a convert.

I’ve struggled with hormonal breakouts, and the subsequent scarring and pigmentation since I was a teenager, so my main concerns have always been dark pigmentation marks, which I’ve tried so many different products over the years to clear up. It’s why I now follow a relatively simple day and night routine when it comes to my skin-care, so that I’m not using too many products on my skin: a routine that usually involves just cleansing and moisturising my face. But after introducing the Effaclar Duo+ into both my day and night routines, and the Effaclar Serum in my evening skincare, I’ve seen a visible difference in how much clearer my skin now looks. Something I haven't experienced in quite a long time.

The Effaclar Duo+ has reduced the redness, blemishes, and marks I have, especially in my problem areas (chin and forehead). It's left my skin looking and feeling clearer and renewed, mostly thanks to the salicylic acid and glycolic acid in the serum. I’m always apprehensive of using new products in my routine but after introducing the Effaclar Duo+ and Effaclar Serum, these two will definitely be regulars in my skincare.

During the last six months, whether it’s due to the blistering cold, stress or my ever changing hormones of the UK, my skin has been screaming out for some love. It has been an uphill battle trying to find a skincare routine that works for my skin. I usually have combination skin, so oily on the t-zone and dryness on the cheeks. However, my skin has completely changed. Now, I have a very, very dry forehead and sensitivity. As a result, I’ve had to park the potent actives and exfoliating masks and welcome gentle products to my routine. La Roche-Posay’s Effaclar range has worked wonders on bringing my skin back to its youthful glow. Since introducing the Effaclar Duo+ and Effaclar Serum to my routine, my skin has suddenly come back to life thanks to the salicylic and glycolic acid formulas.

Implementing the simple but effective Effaclar 3-Step Kit has also made my life easier from day to night. My skin particularly enjoys the Effaclar Purifying Gel Cleanser. It’s super gentle and suitable for the oilier parts of my skin around my nose area, targeting the blackheads that commonly pop up after a day out in the city. Overall, I’m impressed with the quality and efficacy of the Effaclar range and I’ll definitely continue to use them as part of my daily routine.
