Is A 'Married!... With Children' Spinoff Happening? According To One Bundy, We Could Be Revisiting The Family Soon
If you too herald Peg and Kelly Bundy as a fashion icon of the '90s, get excited, because among all the reunions coming our way, it looks like there's gonna be one for Married!... With Children, too. E! Online reported that David Faustino, who played scuzzy but smart little brother Bud on the show about the very dysfunctional Bundy Bunch, is saying he's developing a "spinoff" of Married!... With Children, which premiered in 1987 and ran for 11 seasons on Fox. I guess if you're gonna have a family-friendly moralizing '90s sitcom like Full House come back, you gotta have the opposite too — and Married!... With Children is just about as opposite as you can get. Faustino is claiming that the original cast is on board — so, if this "spin-off" really happens, I have to wonder: What will the show be about?
Faustino revealed his plans to get the gang back together at the premiere of Vacation, which stars his Married sister Christina Applegate, and according to him, everybody is on board: "The whole cast, including Christina, is down to do little bits in it. The idea would be a pilot for a spinoff. That's all I can say right now. It involves me and few other people." Sadly, "little bits" isn't exactly super descriptive about the plot.
So, if this series does happen, what would it be about? There are definitely some possibilities: For instance, in the series, Bud was the hapless little brother of the family, who was as depraved as the rest of his family remembers — but he was also the smart one on the show, and ended up being the only Bundy to finish college. If the show is gonna pick up where they left off with Bud, he might be a famous talent agent now: at the end of the series, he decided to manage his sister Kelly's acting career (and by acting career I mean the shampoo ads, but still).
Bud was also notoriously obsessed with women and sex — maybe now he's finally found the one?
Of course, if this is happening, I don't see how any alleged spinoff could get away NOT giving us some Al Bundy hijinx. Played by Ed O'Neill (now on Modern Family), Al Bundy was a shoe-store salesman who was a terrible husband to his fabulous wife Peggy. Maybe he and Peggy got divorced (because she was obviously WAY too good for him) and now he's moving back in with Bud? (If all is right in the world, Peggy Bundy would be off somewhere enjoying the lavish life of a socialite and married to a much younger man.)
As for Kelly, Applegate herself had some guesses about Kelly at the Vacation premiere. As she told E! Online: "Kelly Bundy probably has like 10 kids. I'm sure of it."
