So, About That Tantric Yoga Date On 'BIP'...
Is it just me, or are The Bachelor franchise's dates getting weirder and weirder with every passing season? On Kaitlyn Bristowe's season of The Bachelorette, we saw her guys physically fight each other more than once (and usually in ridiculous outfits) and give eulogies at her fake funeral. And on this year's edition of The Bachelor, Chris Soules and Carly Waddell visited a sex guru and quite literally stripped down in front of each other. Now? It's getting even weirder. On Monday night's episode of Bachelor in Paradise , Mikey and Clare did couples' tantric yoga, and... yeah, it was the most bizarre first date ever.
S, wait, what exactly is going on here? ABC's press release on the episode lays it out like this.
Clare returns with a date card in hand and a mission to find herself a man. To her disappointment, all of the guys that she’s into seem to be taken. Mikey T. seizes the opportunity by inviting himself on the date and without any other options, Clare accepts. The pair head off to an uncomfortably intimate session of tantric yoga followed by a swim under a waterfall. They soon discover their feelings are not mutual.
Needless to say, going into this episode, I totally expected it to be a nightmare... and I was so right. But it definitely wasn't as bad as I thought it'd be. The worst part of it was when Clare said she and Mikey may "rub privies," and hearing that phrase has now scarred me for life.
And, as for the rest of it? When they were done twisting around all sweaty and gross, they took a dive in this gorgeous cove and chatted, which maybe should have come before the whole tantric poses thing came into play.
So, how does this compare to Chris and Carly's date? This one was way less awkward. At least there wasn't the whole weird breathing thing, and everyone was allowed to leave on as many articles of clothing as they wanted — even if that number was still pretty low. Is this a sign that ABC has gotten the hint that they're just making their stars (and audience) incredibly uncomfortable and are working on finding a different weird date to send them on? Ugh, I hope so.
