Sonja Put On A Good Show On 'RHONY'

by Laura Rosenfeld

Much of Season 7 of The Real Housewives of New York City has built up to Sonja Morgan finally showing off her fashion collection to the world, or at least her fellow Housewives. Well, we finally got to see what Sonja's passion for fashion is made of during Tuesday night's episode of RHONY. In typical Sonja fashion, the show was a bit of a hot mess, but in the end, Sonja really created something she could be proud of.

Sonja has been talking about her global lifestyle brand (whatever that means) on RHONY for forever. Earlier this season, she enlisted Bethenny Frankel to help steer her in the right direction, which was kind of impossible to do considering Sonja and her team still had hardly anything to show of her collection.

Things weren't looking that great for Sonja and her fashion line at the start of Tuesday night's episode either. Bethenny and Heather Thomson attended a meeting with Sonja that turned into a surprise model casting in which Sonja bluntly critiqued the appearances of the models. Bethenny and Heather were pretty appalled by Sonja's behavior, calling it unprofessional. And then Sonja was offended that they were offended, saying that was how she was treated when she was a model. OK, Sonja. If there's one thing I know from years of watching America's Next Top Model contestants attend go-sees, it's that you watch them walk and then critique them later to the camera, not to their faces. Tyra Banks would not approve.

On the day of the runway show, Sonja had to deal with a ton of mishaps. Interns didn't have a pad and paper, the seating wasn't done, and Sonja's breasts kept popping out of her bright red jumpsuit. But, you know, it's hard to find good pre-show entertainment these days.

Needless to say, there was a lot of berating of interns and (hopefully) some people who were actually getting paid to work for Sonja. I actually liked seeing this side of Sonja a lot. On RHONY, Sonja is usually the kind of out there, horny, party girl who never really seems to have it together. It was actually fabulous to see Sonja taking charge of something she was so passionate about and making it come to fruition. And really, after seeing Heather, Carole Radziwill, and Kristen Taekman cackle about Sonja's runway show before they arrived at the event, I wanted more than anything for Sonja to prove them wrong.

And she did. Sonja had a little hiccup when she stopped the show in the middle by taking too much time to get the models in their second looks, which was totally unprofessional. However, it did provide just enough of a break for Bethenny and Ramona Singer to duke it out, so I guess it wasn't a total waste of time.

But all in all, the fashion show was a success. The ladies thought Sonja's designs were beautiful, and they were overall very impressed. Most importantly, Sonja seemed to be proud of herself for pulling the whole thing off, and it was amazing to see her feel good about accomplishing what she had set out to do.
