Jason Mraz Wants To Take You On A "Long Drive"

by Orli Matlow

Jason Mraz is the singer-songwriter that teenage dreams are made of. The performer's song "I'm Yours" was released when I was a freshman in high school, and I couldn't help but fantasize that a beautiful young suitor was singing it, strumming on his acoustic guitar for me. Jason Mraz's Guitar Center Sessions song, "Long Drive," was recently performed at a secret acoustic performance, and it is just as dreamy as his Grammy-nominated sequel "I'm Yours."

"As long as I'm with you, can take the long way home," he sings in the song "Long Drive." He is accompanied by women on the cello, percussion, and vocals, which is really exciting to see. He describes your fantasy romantic road trip, singing, "Could you drive a little slower? It don't matter where we're going, As long as I'm with you. We can take the long way." The song would have been perfect for the soundtrack of an alternative-universe Paper Towns. The singer evokes Margo Roth Spiegelman from the book and movie, singing, "Let's get lost. I don't wanna be found." With his adorable hipster scruff and fedora, Mraz keeps the romantic vibe alive during this episode of Guitar Center Sessions that everyone needs to watch ASAP.

"Lond Drive" is a nice entrance into the canon of romantic singer-songwriter tunes. The lyrics are lovely and generic enough that anyone can imagine that Mraz is singing to them, which is precisely what makes his songs successful in the first place. Much like "I'm Yours," I look forward to seeing various covers by young singers on YouTube, who are perhaps more attainable than Mraz himself. (I checked, guys, he's single, but so busy touring that it will be hard to land a date.) The video is well-produced, establishing a cozy atmosphere. You wish you were there, just as much as you wish he were yours.

Mraz's episode on Season 10 of Guitar Center Sessions premiered on Jul. 24, but will air again on Aug. 28 at 3:30 p.m. on DIRECTV's Audience Network. The line-up for the season has also included The Offspring, Best Coast, and Nick Jonas. Check out Mraz's performance below, and get ready to fall in love.
