Cameron Diaz to Play Miss Hannigan in 'Annie' Remake, Replacing Sandra Bullock
Quvenzhané Wallis, get ready for Cameron Diaz to make your life miserable: the What to Expect When You're Expecting actress has signed on to play evil orphanage head Miss Hannigan in the upcoming remake of Annie, starring 9-year-old Wallis as the iconic orphan. This comes just over a week after planned-Miss Hannigan Sandra Bullock dropped out of the musical reboot due to failed contract negotiations.
It's a surprising casting choice, due to the fact that we've never actually heard Diaz sing (no, this doesn't count). Yet after seeing her fantastic turn as the titular bad teacher of Bad Teacher, we have high hopes that she'll bring the same mean-spirited vivacity to Annie.
Annie, directed by Will Gluck (Easy A) and produced by Jay-Z and Will Smith, will also star Jamie Foxx as Daddy Warbucks. It's set for a Christmas 2014 release. We just don't know what to do with ourselves until then.
