Nordstrom's New Concept Store Is Way Cool

by Madison Fraser

As if the massive, much-anticipated yearly anniversary sale wasn't enough, Nordstrom's new concept store, Space, is launching this Thursday, Aug. 20 online and in select stores. Even if you've already spent your monthly earnings on discounted La Mer and Bobbi Brown, you'll want to make room in your wallet for this permanent shop-in-shop curated by the brand's director of speciality projects, Olivia Kim. Any die-hard fashion insider knows that Olivia Kim's style rivals that of Instagram fashionista Eva Chen or blogger Margaret Zhang, as it's a fair mix of streetwear and high end luxe. Kim knows what's up when it comes to lesser known labels, such as Russian brand Vika Gazinskaya and French designer Simon Porte Jacquemus, and she's incorporated said brands into her new indie-esque concept store.

Other designer brands included are Acne, Commes des Garçon, and Ashley Williams. Chic jewelry lines, such as Sarah & Sebastian and Mociun, will also be up for grabs.

While Nordstrom was always a go-to store for the bigger name designers, Space will introduce the smaller brands to the store's "massive cliental base and support those designers in a unique way, physically differentiating them from more traditional brands on the Nordstrom floor," according to Refinery29. The struggle with department stores is that they never quite captured the smart and trendsetting essence that online retailers such as Net-a-Porter or Opening Ceremony do – they often rely on mainstream fashion, and that's why Space will differentiate Nordstrom from the crowd.

If the selections look anything like Kim's street style on a daily basis, count me in. To starting planning your wish list, here's the complete lineup of Kim's rad picks.
