Cheryl Strayed's 'Brave Enough' Has A Gorg Cover

by Caitlin White

The class of 2016 is going to have the best yearbook quote source material. Cheryl Strayed's new book Brave Enough is a collection of more than 100 of the the writer's best quotations. Finally, we're going to have one place to go for our favorite wise, funny quotes that currently decorate our coffee mug, note books, and poster hanging above our work desk. (I'm going to assume it's not just me.) And the colorful, insightful words inside are complemented by a simple, stunning cover image that's timeless.

Though the last few years have been dominated by Strayed's massive bestseller Wild — and its accompanying Reese Witherspoon-helmed movie adaptation — the quotations will also be pulled from her debut novel Torch and her collection of "Dear Sugar" advice essays Tiny Beautiful Things. In a statement from publisher Knopf, Strayed explained her intentions with Brave Enough:

From the comic to the profound, the simple to the complex, the sorrowful to the ecstatic, the inspiring to the stern, whenever I need consolation or encouragement, a clear-eyed perspective or a swift kick in the pants—which is often—quotes are what I turn to. I think of quotes as mini-instruction manuals for the soul. It’s my appreciation for their very usefulness that compelled me to put together this book.

Strayed's Brave Enough won't be out until October 27, but thankfully she just gave us a glimpse at the cover.

And we know Strayed herself is amazed by this kind of beautiful simplicity. I'll echo what she says in her memoir Wild: "That my complicated life could be made so simple was astounding."
