21 Times Jessica Simpson Was Early '00s Hair Goals

Everything is bigger in Texas. One of the Lone Star State's biggest (and most successful) exports? Oh, just Jessica Simpson. Second biggest? Jessica Simpson's hair (probably). Simpson is celebrating the 10th anniversary of her billion dollar brand empire this year, only solidifying the fact that, nowadays, Simpson is a legit fashion and beauty mogul.

But let's flashback to the early '00s, shall we? She was a Newlywed on the MTV reality show with her first husband Nick Lachey. She was a full-service entertainer, being both a busy singer and an actress.

Yet, perhaps most importantly, Jessica Simpson was early '00s hair goals many times during the decade in which she dominated stage and screen. Simpson switched from white blonde to golden tresses. She also went with stick straight strands as often as she did larger-than-life curls and waves.

In the early aughts, Simpson personified the unfortunate ditzy blonde stereotype. Remember her "Chicken of the Sea" gaffe? I've long since forgiven her for that, just because her locks were always so on point. Plus, she's clearly proven herself to be a shrewd and savvy businesswoman beyond that reality TV persona.

To celebrate 10 years of Jessica Simpson goodness, here are 21 times her hair defined the early aughts. Seriously, I think she hit on every trend from 2001 through 2005. Simpson has earned her icon status.

1. Two-Toned

Dramatic, two-toned strands (rather than natural-looking highlights) were big in 2001. So was the stick straight look. Simpson nailed both trends, with a bit of blue, too.

2. Pre-Ombre

Before ombre was a thing, many of my blonde friends dyed their bottom layer of hair brown or black to add dimension and depth. I thought it was a tad skunk-like, but it was definitely popular. J. Simps was one of the biggest celebs to do this 'do in 2002.

3. Stick Straight

Although Simpson did big waves — more on those in a sec — like a total pro, she wasn't afraid to go stick straight, too. She owned her blowouts.

4. '60s Bouffant

A true southern belle, Simpson adopted a '60s vibe in 2003 with her volume-at-the-crown 'do.

5. Farrah Fawcett-Inspired

Simpson's golden waves were as defined as Farrah Fawcett's were in her infamous poster from the Charlie's Angels era.

Oh and those bell bottoms are so '03. I wore pants like that by LEI for like a year straight.

6. Roots Out

Usually, roots are something you want to cover. But Simpson's visible black roots added contrasting definition to her flaxen strands. The two-toned thing was such an '00s look and Simpson tried just about every variation of the trend.

7. Pink Lady

Pink hair has been one of the trends of 2015. But Simpson was working that shizz back in 2003. This angled lob was one of her best looks ever.

8. Sleek Beehive

Simpson was one of the decade's major celebs to change her hair every other minute. Her platinum bun was way chic.

9. Texas Bedhead

No one did the tousled Texan layers quite like Simpson.

10. Bombshell Bob

Simpson's Old Hollywood bombshell waves channelled Marilyn Monroe in an awesome way. BTW, JS did sideboob before it was a major trend. No wonder her fashion empire is worth a billi!

11. Messy Bun

A messy, highlighted topknot with face-framing fringe? Didn't we all want that in 2003?

12. Brigitte Bardot-Inspired

Simpson pulled a Brigitte Bardot with this voluminous, extensions-assisted look. Before Snooki's pouf and clip-in bumps, Simpson ruled the big-hair world.

13. Mermaid Hair

Simpson's mermaid hair was so long and lush.

14. Headband Bun

One of my favorite formal looks of the '00s was the bun-with-headband look, expertly demonstrated by Jessica Simpson in 2004.

15. Long Layers

Long layers, which can be worn straight or wavy, have been in vogue for years, but this cut was especially popular circa 2005.

16. Blunt Barbie

Evan Agostini/Getty Images Entertainment/Getty Images

Simpson's shoulder-skimming, blunt cut pre-dates today's popular lob. She really was a hair icon in the '00s.

17. Ringlets

Kevin Winter/Getty Images Entertainment/Getty Images

Ringlets might seem more '80s but Simpson made them fresh in 2005.

18. Sleek Curls

Ooh, this slicked back 'do was incredible glam. It was also a touch of ombre before ombre was everywhere.

19. Major Extensions

Simpson's center-parted, mega-long locks always made me want to get extensions — and I already had really long hair.

20. Fake Lob

Frank Micelotta/Getty Images Entertainment/Getty Images

On the rare occasion that I got bored of having long hair but didn't want to cut it, I, too, would throw together an updo that mimicked a bob or a lob, aka a fake bob or fake lob. It was all about bobby pins and clips.

If Jessica Simpson could ditch extensions and length for a faux lob, her minions could be inspired to do the same.

I've come to the conclusion that Jessica Simpson, along with Jennifer Aniston, were the ultimates hair goals of the '00s. There's really no arguing it. The proof is in these pics. Simpson pre-dates Rihanna and Katy Perry as a true coif chameleon — and many of these hairstyles hold up in 2015. You truly took my breath away, Simpson.
