7 Demi Lovato Lyrics To Make You Feel Confident

by Alex Kritselis

I've said it before, and I'll say it again: Demi Lovato is awesome. Over the weekend, Demi Lovato's alleged new single, "Confident," made its way online, and it may feature some of her most inspiring lyrics to date. She has a lot of inspiring lyrics in her discography, so that’s really saying something! The 23-year-old artist has been very open about her ongoing battles with an eating disorder and bipolar depression in recent years, repeatedly using her star power to help chip away at the nasty stigma that often prevents people from discussing important mental health issues. I suspect it’s her sensitivity to mental health concerns that drives her to put so many uplifting messages in her music. Had a bad day? Feeling down? Need a pick-me-up? Trust me, there are Demi Lovato lyrics for that.

Independence, strength, and resilience have been recurring themes in Lovato’s work, and, judging by the two songs we've heard from her upcoming fifth LP so far ("Cool for the Summer" and "Confident"), I think they’ll continue to be. However, it’s clear that Lovato’s moving into a new phase of her life: she seems to be completely done worrying about other people’s opinions. Now, she’s marching to the beat of her own drum. You have to admire that.

Here are seven inspiring Demi Lovato lyrics that will make you feel confident:

"I used to hold my freak back/Now I'm letting go/I make my own choice/Yeah, I run this show..."

From "Confident." Lovato's taking charge!

"The mirror can lie/Doesn't show you what's inside/And it, it can't tell you you're full of life..."

From "Believe In Me." She's right: there's so much more to us than our reflections.

"I will love you/Like I've never been hurt/Run through fire for you/Like I've never been burned..."

From "Never Been Hurt." It's quite a powerful statement.

"Go on and try to tear me down/I will be rising from the ground/Like a skyscraper..."

From "Skyscraper." Honorable mention: "All my windows still are broken/But I'm standing on my feet..."

"Don't say you're sorry, 'cause I'm not even breaking/You're not worth the time that this is taking..."

From "Every Time You Lie." Being able to recognize when a relationship is no longer healthy is an important life skill.

"I'm a badass, jumping off a moving train/I'm a Jane Bond, puttin' all them guys to shame/I'm a wild card, and I'm gonna steal your game/You better watch out..."

From "Fire Starter." I'd definitely pay to see Lovato kickin' butt and takin' names in an action movie!

"Now I'm a warrior/Now I've got thicker skin/I'm a warrior/I'm stronger than I've ever been..."

From "Warrior." What else is there to say?
