It's Time For Tori Kelly To Take Over

by Alex Kritselis

In case you missed it: Tori Kelly's 2015 VMA performance of "Should've Been Us" blew the roof off the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles on Sunday night. The 22-year-old YouTube sensation's show-stopping appearance got Twitter buzzing — much like her appearances at the 2015 Billboard Music Awards and the 2015 BET Awards did — and yet, for some reason, her career still hasn't taken off. What gives? Why are people sleepin' on Tori Kelly? Isn't it obvious by now she has one of the most powerful and versatile voices in the music industry today? Isn't it obvious by now she should be taking over the Billboard charts? Isn't it obvious by now everyone needs to buy her debut album, Unbreakable Smile , immediately? It's so frustrating that she continues to be overlooked! I was in full meltdown mode at the end of last night's telecast.

But then, when I woke up on Monday morning, I found "Should've Been Us" sitting in the No. 10 spot on the iTunes singles chart — and my heart nearly exploded with joy. Perhaps my tantrum was totally unnecessary. Perhaps Kelly is finally "happening," after all! I'm so, so excited (and so, so relieved). Watch her incredible "Should've Been Us" performance below.

Here are just a few of the celebrities Kelly impressed with her pitch-perfect vocals on Sunday evening:

Legendary Soul Singer Gladys Knight

Is there a higher honor than an endorsement from "The Empress of Soul"? I don't think so.

Pink

Talent recognizes talent.

Fifth Harmony's Lauren Jauregui

Praise from one young diva to another.

Glee's Amber Riley

She better stan!

Perez Hilton

"Flawless" is the perfect word to describe Kelly's performance.

Former American Idol Contestant Melinda Doolittle

Maybe "Beast Master" should be Kelly's new nickname. Thoughts?

Singer-Songwriter Jake Miller

Serious answer: No, I honestly don't think so.

Hip-Hop Artist Hoodie Allen

Zero lies detected.

"Should've Been Us" and Unbreakable Smile are available on iTunes and Spotify now. Do yourself a favor and check out Kelly's music today. I promise, you don't be disappointed.
