When Is Ellie Goulding's New Single Coming Out?

by Alex Kritselis

It's been almost eight months since the release of "Love Me Like You Do," and pop music lovers are curious: When is Ellie Goulding's new single coming out? Happily, I have an answer to that "Burn"ing question (sorry, couldn't help myself): Very soon. Ellie Goulding's new song, "On My Mind," will reportedly be sent to pop radio stations on Sept. 22. That's only three weeks away! In fact, tracks sometimes premiere before their official "radio add date," so it’s possible we could hear it even sooner. What excellent news.

If you're a big fan of the 28-year-old British singer, you probably have a million new “Burn”ing questions racing through your mind right now, but I want to start with this one: What does "On My Mind" sound like? Music journalist Mark Sutherland describes the tune as an “upbeat pop banger” in the October 2015 issue of Q Magazine, which should give you a pretty good idea of what to expect. I don't know if you know this about me, but there are few things I love in this world more than a good upbeat pop banger. I live for them. Naturally, my excitement level just shot through the roof.

Here's everything else we know about "On My Mind":

It's Taylor Swift–Esque

Q Magazine's Sutherland explains that "On My Mind" is a "guitar-led, Swiftian (Taylor, not Jonathan) tale of a drunken hook-up with a tattooed admirer, inspired by a time when Goulding was 'on tour, drinking too much and going off the rails.'" He calls the song "brilliant." There are so many incredible things happening here, I don't even know where to begin. "[G]uitar-led"? "Swiftian"? "[B]rilliant"?? Somebody fetch me my smelling salts. Is Goulding's "I Knew You Were Trouble" almost upon us?

It's Produced By Max Martin

Swedish super-producer Max Martin has made a lot of fantastic music over the years, and, if you ask me, he's on a real hot streak right now. He worked on "Love Me Like You Do," so we already know he and Goulding are capable of making magic together. Something tells me this is gonna be great.

The Music Video Has A Thelma & Louise Theme

In an Aug. 24 interview with U.K. radio station Capital FM, Goulding revealed that the "On My Mind" video was inspired by Thelma & Louise , a 1991 Oscar-winning film starring actresses Geena Davis (Thelma) and Susan Sarandon (Louise). "Well it involves me and another girl who’s really hot and we’re sort of like Thelma and Louise," she explained. Uh, are they going to drive off a cliff at the end? (C'mon, I know you were thinking the same thing.) I guess we'll have to wait and see! Rumor has it Goulding shot the clip in Las Vegas last week.

That's everything we know about "On My Mind" so far! I'll be on the lookout for more details.
