You Thought Beyonce Sold a Lot of Records?

by Tanya Ghahremani

Beyoncé may be the reigning queen of pop right now, but don't forget about Adele — the queen of the Amazon. Website. According to The Huffington Post, Adele's 2011 album 21 is Amazon's best-selling album of all time, beating out Taylor Swift, Coldplay, and Susan Boyle.

So, what's the numerical breakdown for a record like this? Turns out, a lot: Adele's 21 has reportedly sold a massive 28 million copies worldwide, and, according to The Independent , has been certified platinum 16 times in the UK and achieved diamond status in the US. For an album that's about heartache and being epically successful after a failed, tumultuous relationship, that's not bad revenge at all. You go, girl.

As for the rest of the list: Britain's Got Talent contestant and Internet sensation Susan Boyle made the number two spot with her album I Dreamed a Dream, and the original Broadway soundtrack to Wicked nabbed the number three spot. Surprisingly, Taylor Swift's album Fearless only made it to number six — considering her album Red sold 1.28 million copies in the US when it was released earlier this year.

However, you've got to remember that this list only considers albums sold on Amazon, and worldwide. Adele's singles "Rolling in the Deep" and "Someone Like You" were massive radio hits across the globe, so 21 taking the top spot makes sense — and is well-deserved for a talent like Adele.
