The Apple & Gilt Partnership Means Shoppable TV

by Julia Guerra

If you thought Apple Inc. couldn't get any better, think again. The technology giant announced its latest advancement Wednesday, relaying that now you can shop with your remote because the Apple TV App Store is partnering with Gilt.

For those who don't know, allow me to bring you up to speed. Founded in 2007 by Kevin Ryan, Gilt is an e-commerce website and smartphone application dedicated to designer flash sales, providing members with up to 70% retail prices. Up until now the site's app has been iPhone and Android exclusive, with users able to download the app via the iTunes store and create their membership info. From there you can shop deals on women, men, children, and home deals. It's basically a girl's best friend, and her wallet's worst nightmare because it's super easy and budget friendly.

Thankfully this transition from handheld to tv screen will not alter the ins and outs of the application. Apple TV owners can head into the app store, download, and start shopping! It's that simple (and dangerous).

This is looking to be the start of a beautiful friendship, ladies. Not only can we kick back and binge watch Gilmore Girls on Netflix these days, but once Apple TV meets Gilt, "me" time means "shameless-shopping-through-the-TV" time.

According to The Verge, Apple recruited Gilt, as well as other shopping apps, "to demonstrate how consumers will be able to shop directly on Apple TV. In this way, Apple TV will offer much broader functionality than similar living room devices from Roku or Amazon, which stick largely to entertainment."

First music, then cellular devices, and now this technological genius is introducing retail convenience to our televisions? Cats out of the bag, folks. Apple Inc. is slowly, but surely, taking over the world.

This collab is pure genius. Women and men alike know all too well that while scanning the mall for deals can be an excellent source of cardio, oftentimes it's just a waste of gas as you leave the stores empty handed, an hour of life you'll never get back.

With the Apple TV App Store teaming up with Gilt, you not only save time and money, but you'll be do so from the comfort of your own home. The signature of Apple products has always been convenience, and with this pairing, the brands have redefined the meaning of "retail therapy." Amen to the technology gods. We have a winner.
