There's no doubt that this all-American designer does effortlessly chic and super stylish clothing better than anyone else, and the sneakers on the Ralph Lauren runway at NYFW just goes to show he's still on top of the trends. Because only Lauren himself could master polished separates paired with sneakers and gorgeous gowns paired with stilettos all in the same runway show.
The S/S16 collection debuted on Thursday at New York Fashion Week, featuring a wide array of different styles. Each and every look that walked the runway was stunningly beautiful and super stylish, but that was to be expected. The ensembles were all unique and different from the next, yet the whole collection was still very cohesive. While I couldn't tell you how Lauren did it, I can tell you that it made for a beyond stunning presentation.
Models walked the runway clad in super wide leg jumpsuits that basically looked like maxi dresses, and expertly cut out bodices in fitted silhouettes. Navy, white, coral red, and tan dominated the runway in different patterns and prints, from satin navy jumpsuits to red and navy striped t-shirts. Dresses and those aforementioned wide leg suits were presented towards the end of the show, while the beginning showcased summery separates and casual wear.
My favorite looks of the show had to be the ones where the models rocked sneakers. The first outfit was comprised of a baggy pair of white trousers, a tucked in white blouse, a caramel-colored leather jacket, and a pair of high-top sneakers in the same shade.
Just look at how effortless and cool she is! It seems uncommon for models to be wearing anything other than sky high heels on the runway. I can't help but love Ralph Lauren's deviation from the norm. It is both refreshing and exciting to see not only flat shoes, but sneakers make an appearance on a runway. Here's the other look in the collection that featured similar shoes.
I wouldn't be surprised if we saw similar high-top flat sneakers debut on style stars ASAP after this show. As much as I love the look of heels, they're horribly difficult to walk in and often terribly uncomfortable. I would pick sneakers over heels any day. And now thanks to Ralph Lauren, it's the more stylish decision anyways.
