Trick or treat? Unless something monumental is announced ahead of time, the new onslaught of Netflix releases tend to be a mixed bag... particularly a mixed bag that's like 75 percent black licorice with a Twix bar or Milky Way thrown in. This is mainly true when it comes the line-up of movies and shows coming to Netflix in October 2015. There totally some choice treats if you dig deep enough, and then there's The Vanilla Ice Project Seasons 1 through 4.
But, before we get into the select caramel picks of this month's bag, let's pay tribute to the dearly near-departed. I'm sad to announce that Peewee's Big Adventure will not be joining us into the next month. Romeo + Juliet will also be mourned as a great loss to streaming services. The Big Lebowski and Annie Hall are also taking a leave of absence, which I'm sure your stoner frat boy ex-boyfriend and sensitive Jewish hipster ex-boyfriend will be bummed about, respectively.
But out with the old, in with the new. Let's look forward to some of the choice picks of this month's roster, and then scroll down below to see what else October has in store.
Charlie And The Chocolate Factory
Does this Tim Burton adaptation hold a candle to the 1971 film with Gene Wilder? That's up for debate. Is it still a colorful and delightful romp through a candy wonderland? Hell yeah. Take it from me, you'll want to revisit this offbeat film as an adult.
Million Dollar Baby
Can we just talk about how Hilary Swank won her second Best Actress Academy Award for this after previously winning for Boys Don't Cry? That's star power right there. Not to mention this film swept up three other Oscars including Best Picture, so I would argue that's worth a glance if you haven't seen the boxing drama before.
Like Veronica Mars? Fan of The Walking Dead? Look what I have for you! Developed by Rob Thomas and vaguely adapted from a comic series of the same name, iZombie follows the adventure of zombified coroner Liv Moore. She, like Veronica Mars herself, has a hand in solving mysteries. Unlike Veronica Mars, she does it by eating a victim's brains and trying to absorb their flashbacks. So, you know, that's something you may want to marathon watch before it returns to the CW on October 6.
American Horror Story: Freak Show
Get into the Halloween spirit with the last installment of the AHS series. This one is pure spectacle: two heads, three boobs, lobster hands, and plenty of Nirvana covers to go around. Best part? No ticket price!
