Lanvin Is Bringing Hair Bows Back

by Eliza Florendo

When I think of bows, sophisticated isn't the first adjective that comes to mind. Instead, I think young, fresh, and maybe even a little juvenile. I've been proven wrong, however, with Lanvin's hair bows during their spring/summer 2016 show. Somehow, they've turned the very childish bow into the chic woman's new go-to hairstyle. How, exactly? Well, it is Lanvin. I'm not surprised.

Hairstylist Guido Palau was the genius behind this Parisian inspired 'do. From the front, the models donned blunt, rocker bangs, looking almost like a pixie cut rather than an updo. From the side, though, is where I fell in love. In classic Parisian style, the look was a bit messy and a lot cool. The elegant chignon was ruffled up a bit, and topped off with a silk ribbon tied in a bow. Some ribbons were black, others a deep red. Regardless of the color, it looked amazing.

And while there have been countless standout looks from SS 2016, this is one I'm definitely going to try this weekend. I'm embarrassed to admit that during my freshman year of college, I had a thing for bows, and had one in several different colors. Sure, it was cute. But when you reach a certain age, some things just don't fly anymore. Apparently, I was wrong. Case in point: this gorgeous, too-cool-for-school look.

The pretty hairdo gave just enough femininity to match the collection's menswear inspired looks, full of boxy silhouettes and fitted trousers. It looked particularly heavenly with the intentionally frayed skirts and sleeveless tops. Can we talk about how well those blunted bangs complimented the blazer dress (which, by the way, is my new favorite thing)?

One of my favorite things about fashion is it's ability to bring different things together, especially opposites. High and low pieces make for the best ensembles, and who can deny the beauty of pairing thrift finds with coveted designer pieces? Nobody. In this case, Paulu nailed it, borrowing notes from both masculinity and femininity, from elegant to rock-and-roll. Hands down my favorite hair from SS 2016.
