The New 'Mockingjay, Part 2' Trailer Reveals A Lot

by Emily Lackey

If you’re counting down the days until The Hunger Games: Mockingjay, Part 2 is released in a theater near you, then you are not alone. Fans everywhere are looking forward to their annual helping of Katniss, Peta, and all things Capitol-related. For years now, November has switched the hearts of Hunger Games fans everywhere from being about turkey and stuffing to District 12 and the Uprising — and this year will be no different. The final film in the Hunger Games series is being released in just a matter of months, and I, for one, am clamoring to get my hands on every little hint or suggestion of information about the new movie. Well, ask and you shall receive, it seems — because the latest Mockingjay Part 2 trailer was released on Tuesday and it’s so much better than I could have ever hoped for.

Yes, this is mainly because it reveals a lot about what the battle for freedom is going to be like for Katniss and her revolutionary tribe — but also because it gives away some pretty key details about what the 76th Annual Hunger Games will be like. Because, if you thought that those would be over with after the Uprising, you were wrong.

Need proof? Here are a few of those clues:

1. Katniss Is Going It Alone

At least into the stadium. In the previous Hunger Games, Katniss was accompanied by one other tributary from her district — but this time she rolls up in that place totally solo.

2. Snow Is The Real Enemy

Instead of killing each other, Katniss urges everyone to turn their violence toward Snow.

3. Their Target Isn’t Going To Be Each Other

For years, the Hunger Games have ordered contestants to kill the best of each other — but Katniss says it’s time to point their weapons toward the Capitol. Does this mean that the sole mark of the 76th Hunger Games will be President Snow?

4. There's No Nature This Time

The battle is fought in a city that looks very much like the Capitol — but whether it actually is the Capitol or a cityscape contrived to look like it has yet to be determined.

5. Everything Explodes

It’s just like Katniss to leave a trail of explosions in her wake.

6. Whatever These Are Will Give You Nightmares For Months

Keep scrolling. Look away. Nothing terrifying and straight out of your worst nightmares to see here.

7. They’re Underground A Lot

I can’t tell if they’re trying to escape of trying to break in, but either way, it looks a lot like a claustrophobic’s idea of a terrible time.

8. They’re Working Together

Instead of fighting each other, everyone is clearly traveling in a pack and storming the Capitol together.

9. Katniss Still Has An Endless Supply Of Arrows

She shoots at least three in the new preview, and yet always seems to have a full set on her back. Convenient.

10. This Cat Lady Is There

Which is very, very confusing.

11. Seriously Everything Explodes

There’s an actual scene where they’re all running through what looks like a parking garage and people just start randomly disintegrating through beams of light. What the hell kind of monsters thought up a world like that?

So many questions are still unanswered, but at least now we know that the final installment is going to be a brutal one. Get ready for a tough fight and one action-packed finale.
