'Supernatural' Adds A Mysterious Foe This Season

by Keertana Sastry

You would think that after 10 years of fighting monsters, demons, and everything else that goes bump in the night, the world would take one day off from needing to be saved from Dean and Sam Winchester. But it looks like Supernatural Season 11 is instead bringing more death, destruction, and evil in the form of the recently released Darkness, which was released after the Mark of Cain was finally removed from Dean's arm in the Season 10 finale. So what happens next? That's the big question facing fans as Wednesday night's Season 11 premiere approaches, and saving the world from the Darkness might be Dean and Sam's biggest challenge yet. But perhaps they'll get some help from new friends along the way? Supernatural Season 11 is adding a new character to the mix, though this addition sounds like more of a foe than friend, and if that makes you nervous, wait until you hear which familiar face will return.

We know that there are a few characters from seasons past who managed to survive and will return to the world of Supernatural. TVLine confirmed that Ruth Connell will be back as Rowena, which makes perfect sense considering in the Season 10 finale, Rowena was able to help rid Dean of the Mark of Cain and place a spell on Castiel to make him want to kill Crowley. Executive Producer Jeremy Carver told TVLine that in Season 11 Rowena will really enjoy her new powers. "We’ll be seeing her in the early parts of the season deciding what she wants to do with this newfound power, and you’ll see what kind of success she has with that," he said.

As for new characters, right now only one Supernatural addition has been confirmed for Season 11. According to TVLine, The Mentalist actress Emily Swallow will appear as Amara, a new mysterious character who Dean and Sam will encounter while trying to fight The Darkness. She is described as "a femme fatale who is both seductive and sinister (when need be)," but we don't know if she fits into said Darkness or is just another foe that needs to be destroyed as the season progresses. Everyone is keeping mum about Amara, and all Carver would tell TVLine is she is "one we want to let play out on screen." In fact, we only see her for a brief second in the season trailer above.

I can't wait to find out who this Amara is and what she might have in store for our favorite brothers. My guess is that she is a demon who thrives on the chaos of the Darkness and will evolve into quite a threat as the season progresses. Right now, all we have is speculation when it comes to Supernatural Season 11, but that's part of what makes the series so fun to watch every week.
