7 Times Hilary Duff Updated A Casual Hairstyle

by Kali Borovic

Everyone gets just a little bit busier in the fall. Between the upcoming holidays, work, and trying to have a social life, there's not much time in the morning to worry about hairstyles. Hilary Duff updated a braided bun, and it's the perfect way to switch up an everyday 'do. This isn't the only casual style that the star has put her own twist on, either. Duff has a knack for giving average hair some high-fashion flair.

The actress has been imparting wisdom upon her fans since her Lizzie McGuire days, but her hairstyles have really stuck with me the most. She posted a picture of her most recent up 'do to Instagram, and the original twist on the braided bun is so simple that it's genius. The star opted for a low braid instead of your typical braided crown, which could easily go well with a formal or causal look.

I've been experimenting with braids for a long time and I can't believe that I didn't think of this sooner. The low, pulled through bun completed Duff's braided look, creating the perfect blend of causal and formal. Duff referred to the look as a "fresh bun" on Instagram, which definitely describes it to a T. Here's a look at several other laid back hairstyles that she's transformed with a personal spin, accompanied by tutorials to help you get the look.

1. Braided Bun

Seriously, so adorable.

This tutorial is similar, but you'll need to tie the hair in a bun instead of leaving it in a ponytail to get that Duff look.

2. Perfectly Messy Part

As an early '00s icon, it only makes sense that Duff would embrace the zig-zag part. She made messy look completely put together.

This is a nice way to switch up your everyday hairstyle.

3. Banded Ponytail

At first this might seem like your average messy ponytail, but if you look closely, there's actually a tiny bun in the back.

Follow all the steps for this banded 'do, but don't pull it all the way through at the end if you're looking to rock the tiny bun like Duff.

4. Teeny Tiny Topknot

If you're bored with the traditional top-knot, then this is the style for you. Duff gives her own twist to the look by combining the top-knot with the half-up/half-down.

5. Exaggerated Side Part

Why just stick with a normal part when you can add some drama? This works perfectly with messy, disheveled waves.

It's really that easy.

6. Keeping It Colorful

She's experimented with blonde and blue hair, but this grey and pink look was her best yet.

This one takes a little bit more time, but it's a great way to switch up your average look.

7. Gym Rat Chic

She owned her messy curls and made them into some fashionable gym hair. Just add a little dry shampoo and you're good to go!

Just leave some pieces down and rock that messy 'do.

Your morning hair routine just got that much more interesting.
