The second season of FX's hit series Fargo premieres on Monday night and you should get ready to do a time jump. The second season of the show will take place in the year 1979 in Sioux Falls, S.D. and will feature a whole new cast, including Patrick Wilson, Ted Danson, Jean Smart, and Kirsten Dunst. But who is Jesse Plemons and why is his face so darn familiar? That's because you totally know him from many iconic roles, such as Landry from the beloved series Friday Night Lights and a horrible villain named Todd on Breaking Bad.
In the second season of Fargo, Plemons will take on a brand new character: Ed Bloomquist, a butcher's assistant married to a woman named Peggy (played by Dunst), who is going through a bit of an identity crises, according to a description in Entertainment Weekly. Since this is a show that previously tackled a murder mystery, I'm a little scared of what it could mean for Plemons playing a butcher — what he might have to do and what we might see — but it's clear the 27-year-old actor can definitely handle it. The Dallas native has a long list of credits, and is primed to break out this fall with key roles in the movies Black Mass, The Program, and Bridge of Spies. "I’m not sure yet how to get a handle on the idea of this ‘breakout’ thing," Plemons told the New York Times in an interview. "I think I just might move at a slower pace than Hollywood does and this year I might have taken on too much."
To get you up to speed on Plemons' acting resume, here are some of his most iconic roles.
Landry In Friday Night Lights
Chances are you recognize Plemons from his beloved role as sweet good guy Landry Clarke on this critically-acclaimed TV series. According to the NY Times, he booked the role when he was just 18 years old and first moving to Los Angeles to pursue acting. "It was the most exciting moment of my life," he told the publication.
Todd In Breaking Bad
Oh my God, Todd is so evil that he'll make you forget all about sweet Landry and it's a testament to how talented Plemons is an actor. He switches gears to play Todd, a total sociopath who does some of the most unbelievably horrifying actions in a series filled with horrible crimes. It's bad that I don't want to mention in it print. The above clip is pretty bad, but the worst is at the end of the episode "Dead Freight" in Season 5. Don't say I didn't warn you.
Floyd Landis In The Program
Plemons plays the disgraced pro cyclist in this biopic of another famously disgraced cyclist: Lance Armstrong (played by Ben Foster). The movie opened last month at the Toronto International Film Festival and has been released in France, with release in the UK to follow.
Kevin Weeks In Black Mass
The actor plays opposite Johnny Depp in this film about Whitey Bulger's infamous criminal history. Plemons plays Bulger's cohort Kevin Weeks in the movie, which has received rave reviews for Depp's performance.
Joe Murphy In Bridge Of Spies
Because Plemons truly is in everything this fall, he plays solider Joe Murphy in the Tom Hanks and Steven Speilberg film, opening this week.
Jerry McCarthy In Olive Kitteridge
Remember that HBO mini-series that won all of the Emmys a few weeks ago? Well, Plemons was in that, too, playing stockboy Jerry for two episodes.
And now you can say you knew all about Plemons before he became super famous.
