Dress Like A Plus Size Duchess Of Cambridge

by Amanda Richards

When contemplating a plus size Kate Middleton costume, I realized that there are a tremendous amount of Kate Middletons to choose from. Should one embody a Pre-William Kate Middleton, who dressed like the girl next door while making it easy for the royals to imagine her groomed to be a queen? Or perhaps Wedding Day Kate Middleton, who was so fabulously festooned in white lace that it was actually hard to find her? Or maybe the best choice would be Evening Gala Kate Middleton, simply to pay homage to the amazing gowns she gets to wear on a regular basis?

In the end, I decided to go with Everyday Kate Middleton — or at least as "everyday" as the Duchess of Cambridge can get. After all, we're talking about a woman who goes through at least five outfit changes every day. In her world, nothing is simple.

That being said, there is a relatively easy way to achieve her look, and it has the added bonus of not costing thousands, or prompting the Queen to sneer at you. Despite the fact that Kate is slim and trim, you magnificent plus size Halloween costume seekers can pull off her look with ease. After all, we're all queens here. Here's what you need to take the throne.

1. A Very Kate Silhouette

For everyday appearances and events, Middleton seems to prefer one of two looks: A simple sheath dress with elbow-length sleeves, or a sleeveless sheath dress with a matching jacket. It's polished, unfussy, and always looks chic. Here are a couple suggestions for how to get the look in plus.

2. A Fascinator Fit For A Fascinating Queen

Sure, she might only wear these to formal events and mass, but who cares? It's Halloween, you're the queen, and you get to wear the most excessively ridiculous fascinator of your choosing. I'm a fan of this one.

If you don't want to spend a lot of money for the fascinator, there are plenty of great tutorials on YouTube to learn how to make your own. This might be the better option, as it's fully customizable and can be tailored to the color and size of your choosing.

3. A Lustrous Brunette Mane

The Duchess has awesome hair, and even the blondest, pixie-est plus size babes can get the look this Halloween. All you need is a simple brunette wig.

4. An Iconic Engagement Ring

It's no secret that Kate wears the engagement ring of the late Diana, Princess of Wales. After her death, the ring was given to Prince Harry. When it came time for William to propose to Kate, dutiful brother Harry decided that the future queen should have it. The ring is said to be worth about $500,000, but luckily, you can get a replica at a fraction of the cost.

5. Kate's Signature Pumps

Though she has branched out lately, there was a time when Kate Middleton wore virtually nothing but the L.K. Bennet Sledge Patent Pumps. At $345, these shoes are hardly affordable, but luckily, there are plenty of dupes. The best part? Some of them come in wide fits that can accommodate plus size feet.

It might seem too easy to be true, but that's all there is to the perfect plus size Kate Middleton costume. And even if you don't have a princely partner by your side, you can still be royal as f*ck this Halloween.
