9 Scary Stories From Celebs In Time For Halloween

by Caitlyn Callegari

There are some people who are completely closed off to supernatural stories and otherworldly experiences — I, personally, am not one of them. On the flip side, there are those who are in the business of scaring us all with their stories of the paranormal. For instance, the many celebrities who have recounted their own scary stories, including everyone from pop stars like Ariana Grande and Kesha, to world famous actors like Leonardo DiCaprio. Apparently, ghouls live among us. Just as I had suspected all along.

So, if you want to be effectively spooked because you are a fellow Halloween fiend like me, or simply because this sort of thing just intrigues you, look no further. I have done us all a solid. Out of the goodness of my ghost-hunting heart, I poked around the most haunted corners of the Internet, walked up the metaphorical creaky attic stairs, and unearthed some paranormal happenings... in the form of some really creepy and unforgettable celebrity stories on the matter. Clearly, just because you're famous, it doesn’t mean that you’re untouched or unaffected by the human sensation that is complete and utter terror, be it via ghosts, demons, or a haunted vagina that requires an exorcism. You've been warned!

1. Ariana Grande

The singer told Complex that after going to a "haunted castle" and cemetery that she saw demons. She said,

[I] felt this sick, overwhelming feeling of negativity over the whole car and we smelled sulfur, which is the sign of a demon, and there was a fly in the car randomly, which is another sign of a demon. I was like, "This is scary, let’s leave." I rolled down the window before we left and said, "We apologize. We didn’t mean to disrupt your peace." Then I took a picture and there are three super distinct faces in the picture — they’re faces of textbook demons.

The interviewer understandably wanted to see the evidence, but Grande added,

I deleted it. The next day I tried to send the picture to my manager and it said, “This file can’t be sent, it’s 666 megabytes.” I’m not kidding. I used to have a folder called "Demons" that had pictures with all the screen caps in it, but then weird things started happening to me so I deleted it.

The story actually doesn't end there. You can check out the rest of the interview where she talks about, "massive black matter" sharing a bed with her.

2. Lea Michele

This scary story is better heard than read. Ya know, for effect.

3. Lady Gaga

Gaga said this to Entertainment Weekly of American Horror Story: Hotel: "I’ve just been weeping while I’m here because I have returned to something I’ve believed in so much, which is the art of darkness. It’s not something that everyone understands, but, for the people that do — Horror Story fans, my fans — there is a true connection between us, and it’s a language within itself."

The art of darkness? THE ART OF DARKNESS? Like black magic? Gaga, you don't mess with that sort of stuff!

4. Miley Cyrus

Cyrus talked to Elle UK about the apartment that she rented in London, which already had a few unwelcoming occupants. She said of her time there,

I was having really crazy dreams and really scary things, and one night my little sister — it sounds crazy to tell you — but she was standing in the shower and all of a sudden I hear her scream. I run in there and the water had somehow flipped to hot but it was still… It wasn’t like the water had just changed, the knob had turned but she hadn’t turned it and it was burning her. She was really red. Before I felt this, I thought I had seen a little boy sitting on the sink watching me take a shower so I felt really freaked out. I was sitting there the next night and maybe I’m crazy, but I could have sworn I could see this little boy sitting there on the sink, kicking his feet.

5. Jennifer Lawrence

On The Late Show With David Letterman, Lawrence told the host about her creepy experience with Nicholas Hoult while staying with him in Africa. She said,

I've been haunted by a demon... We would turn off all the lights, then we'd turn the burglar alarm, like, you know, motion detectors or whatever and go up to bed. And, then it would go off. And the burglar alarm would go off. And then we'd both walk down the stairs and like a lamp would be on, or like the oven door would be open. And then Nick would just be like, "Oh well, I guess that's it," and go back to bed. And I was like, "Oh hell no! No!"

The ghost was just probably trying to get her autograph. But, still scary nonetheless.

6. Demi Lovato

Are you ready for this one, guys? Because, I don't know if you are. I wasn't. Actually, I still might not be. Lovato told BuzzFeed,

My house in Texas is so ridiculously haunted. Not by a bad spirit, but a little girl. I think her name is Emily. I’ve had a medium come over and ghost hunters, and they both told me the same name, Emily. There were so many times that I saw her when I was growing up. I saw her in my closet one time. When I was 3 years old my mom caught me talking to something by myself. She asked, "Who are you talking to?" and I said, "My best friend Emily." She’s playful. She’d probably be around 11 or 12 years old, maybe younger.

Not sure why she's so calm about it. I think we can all agree that kid ghosts are the absolute scariest.

7. Kesha

If you didn't know, Kesha once claimed that her vagina was haunted, much to the chagrin of everyone who has a vagina and didn't know this was a possibility. In an effort to get a bit more info, and probably some closure on the situation, Rolling Stone spoke to her about it, and she delved into her "exorcism" for them:

Because I exude energy, dead entities cling to me. I had a spirit follow me into my house. You see it in the show. Things were flying off the shelf. That's not bullsh*t, that really happened. So my healer, she had to literally give me an exorcism. I know that sounds crazy, but it worked... There's a lot of screaming and grabbing energies and she was talking in tongues. She was speaking Latin or something, I'm not really sure. It was definitely another language, and she was making all sorts of crazy noises. At one point she started choking.

She later clarifies that she's not, "100 percent sure" the ghost was strictly haunting only her vagina.

8. Leonardo DiCaprio

He hasn't won an Oscar yet, but perhaps he should win some sort of bravery medal for nonchalantly telling letting us in on this nugget. He said on British show Lorraine,

"My home makes weird noises at times and I have to get up in the middle of the night and check if there's somebody breaking in. It's like creaking or something — these weird ghost noises, but I don't believe in ghosts. It's like the wind or the way it was built."

Sure, "the wind." Right.

9. Keanu Reeves

Fast forward to 1:15 to hear about the time that, as a child, Reeves and his nanny watched a jacket come "waving through the doorway" of the bedroom they were in, before vanishing.

This, my friends, is why you NEVER LEAVE THE DOOR OPEN AT NIGHT. A lesson learned.
