Carlos Did His First Salsa On 'DWTS'

by Lindsay Denninger

It’s hard to believe, but it’s true—Carlos PenaVega did his first salsa on Week 8 of Dancing With The Stars. I know it’s shocking to have someone who is a) of Latin descent, b) such a great dancer, and c) married to someone who can salsa that has never once in his life completed a salsa dance, but here we have it. Carlos was a little nervous of the impending number coming into the competition, but he totally nailed it. Of course, he had a little help from someone you may have heard of—Latin singing superstar Marc Anthony.

Turns out that Carlos and Marc Anthony are old friends, Carlos having met Marc Anthony years ago when he was in Big Time Rush. Having help from Marc Anthony the first time you have to dance a salsa is like asking Bobby Flay to help you with your first dinner party—it’s just not fair! Luckily for Carlos and Witney, Marc Anthony really stirred something up inside of Carlos, because he absolutely rocked the number. He even took off his shirt and shook that thing to give the drooling fans at home something to scream about (I’m sure his wife, Alexa PenaVega, also enjoyed that part).

All in all, Carlos and Witney earned a 27 for their dance, which is not bad considering it was Carlos’ first time doing a salsa. I think some of that credit goes to fellow Dancing With The Stars pro dancer Val Chmerkovskiy, who taught Carlos how to shake his booty from his lats and not from his hips (I don’t know what that means but Julianne Hough also agreed with the advice). There was even a wonderful little video of Carlos and Val shirtless shimmying together. Now that’s a Dancing With The Stars pairing that I (and I’m sure many others) would pay to watch. Maybe next week, ABC?
