The Casting Call For Young Nicki Minaj Is Here

by Kadeen Griffiths

The moment we've all been waiting for has finally arrived. No, Nicki Minaj's upcoming ABC Family show isn't already airing its pilot — which, admittedly, is the real moment that we are all waiting for — but the most recent news on the project is almost as exciting. According to The Wrap, the casting call for Nicki Minaj's TV show has finally begun. The network is looking for young women of color between the ages of 11-13 to portray a young Minaj in the scripted show which will, of course, "focus on Minaj’s childhood in Queens with her family, and the personal and musical evolution that led to her eventual rise to stardom." The as-of-yet-untitled show will film in New York, and to say that I'm excited about it is an understatement. But how do you audition to play Nicki Minaj?

Luckily, the audition process is not only relatively simple, but doesn't actually require you to travel anywhere. Sure, you'll have to travel out to New York for the filming, but, theoretically speaking, you could audition to play Young Nicki Minaj in your home. Or, rather, your younger sister can audition to play Young Nicki Minaj in your home. (Excuse me while I push my sister into following the steps.) But whether they're already excited to jump at the chance, or you have to do a bit of stage mom-ing to convince them, check out the five easy steps below.

Step One: Download The Disney Applause App

The app can be downloaded for free from both the Apple App Store and from Google Play. Did I mention the part where it's free? So, literally, you have no monetary excuse not to get this done.

Step Two: Press ABC Family's Online Open Call

I'm not sure what else the app has to offer, but you'd better be repeat pressing the section that takes you to the open call. And do it quickly, too, before the app crashes from too many people trying to get into it at once.

Step Three: Access The Script

You'll have to audition by reading a portion of the script — one that I imagine won't actually make it into the final episode, but that nonetheless gives a good approximation of what Young Nicki's character is like.

Step Four: Upload Your Audition Video

The entire process being online makes it easier to get this done on your own time, so this is receiving a huge thumbs up from me.

Step Five: Get Everything In Before The Deadline

All your materials have to be in before Sunday, Nov. 15, which is the deadline for the audition video, and all of the permission slips you probably have to fill out before your 11 to 13 year old sibling can be on the small screen.

And there you have it. See? Being Young Nicki could be as easy as traveling back in time to the child you once were. Good luck.
