3 Essential Coats For Winter & How To Wear Them

In all honesty, coat shopping can be a little bit stressful. Season to season, you probably aren't buying a ton of outerwear options, and the pieces you do buy need to check a few boxes. Versatile, comfortable, durable, aligned with your personal style... these are just a few musts when it comes to choosing the perfect coat. When choosing the perfect piece, you want to make sure it's something you will actually want to put on several times a week and seamlessly integrate into your wardrobe. After all, this is something that should elevate your closet, not stress you out about making it work. And that means something different for everyone. Whether your style is a little trendy, totally classic, whimsically bohemian, athletic, or anywhere in between, there's a coat that will cover all of your bases.

We've teamed up Abercrombie & Fitch (and a few of the coolest girls in our office) to showcase the versatility of three pieces that will be everywhere this season. Each girl picked a coat that spoke to her personal vibe and tested it out with two different looks. Dressed up or down, the right coat keeps you warm and brings a little something extra to your outfit, whether you're headed for the office or to your BFF's holiday party.

1. The Cozy Sweater Coat

Featuring: High Rise Girlfriend Jeans, $44; Slim Lace-Up Tee, $30; Shaggy Knit Coat, $63; Plaid A-Line Skirt, $54, all from Abercrombie & Fitch

This ultra-fuzzy cardigan is totally plush and warm, but it still looks totally put together. Over a lace-up tee and distressed denim or with a polished A-line mini and mock turtleneck, it can easily go day to night. You'll even want to wear it with leggings and an old T-shirt while cozying up to some Netflix.

2. The Fur-Lined Parka

Featuring: Faux Fur Lined Twill Parka, $200; Turtleneck Sweater Dress, $88; Shaker-Stitch Crew Sweater, $30; Boyfriend Jeans, $44; Plaid Scarf, $38; all from Abercrombie & Fitch

The lining of this parka is literally so soft, it’s like wearing your favorite fur throw out of the house. It looks great with a turtleneck dress, but it also layers well over a casual boyfriend jean-and-sweater combo. The blanket scarf adds extra cozy points.

3. The Classic Leather Moto Jacket

Featuring: Cropped Vegan Leather Moto Jacket, $68.60; Ribbed Overlay Sweater Dress, $54; Lace-Up Hoodie, $30; High Rise Girlfriend Jeans, $44; all from Abercrombie & Fitch

A classically styled moto jacket is timeless, and it really does go with everything. Layer it over a sweatshirt, dress it up with an LBD, or throw it over a plain white tee and jeans… the options are endless.
