Rooney Mara Went For Goth Chanel
Since bursting onto the scene as the title character in The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo armed with a made-over hairdo and a penchant for wearing black, Rooney Mara's edgy-gothic style sensibilities tend to really wow. Fast forward to 2015, and the actress is already garnering early Oscars buzz for her role alongside powerhouse Cate Blanchett — and she's been dressing accordingly. Mara wore Chanel Couture at the New York premiere of Carol, and it might just be one of her best looks to date.
She walked the red carpet alongside a Lanvin-clad Blanchett, and she definitely held her own (and all who are familiar with Blanchett's considerable style chops know that is saying a lot). The ensemble in question came from the Chanel Spring 2015 Couture collection, and it features a textured bustier paired with a delicate lace long-sleeved blouse, as well as a similarly textured circle skirt. All style elements combined for a simple, yet striking look, and Ms. Mara managed to really make it a home run with the styling. She wore some minimalistic black pumps, an even more minimalistic slicked-back ponytail, and last but not least, some truly epic eyeshadow.
Fabulous, right? That said, it's certainly not the first time she's tried the whole dark and mysterious look — so, with that in mind, let's take a look at some of her best gothic-esque ensembles from over the years!
1. At The New York Film Festival Premiere Of Carol
Another day, another beautiful outfit from Chanel.
2. At A Celebration For Cartier
This retro-inspired embellished frock from Givenchy is nothing short of gorgeous.
3. At The Rome Film Festival Premiere Of Trash
Elegant, striking, and little strange — in other words, Mara's exact style M.O.
4. At The Santa Barbara Film Festival Premiere Of Carol
Yet another stylishly simple dress from Chanel (not that I'm complaining).
5. At A Party For Calvin Klein
Stunning.
6. At The 2013 CFDA Awards
Very elegant, and the textured cutouts add a dash of undone chic to the gown.
7. At the Berlin Film Festival Premiere Of Side Effects
Almost uncharacteristically girlish, yet stylish as ever.
8. At The 2012 Met Gala
For the 2012 Met Gala, Mara went for one of her most well-loved designers — Givenchy.
9. At The 2012 Golden Globes
Full Bond girl, no?
10. At The Paris Premiere Of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo
Between this adorable Louis Vuitton frock and the red lipstick, Ms. Mara is killing it.
