Don't Get Makeup All Over Your Thanksgiving Feast

I get it. It's Thanksgiving and you want to look your best — but between your grandma's five fully-operating ovens and questions about the current vacancy of your uterus, you're practically sweating your face off. Wine, and family, can do that to a gal. Here's my favorite makeup that'll stay put through your entire Thanksgiving meal.

The meat sweats are real, folks, and unless you prepare yourself, you're liable to drown in drippings this holiday. Not just that — you'll also be stuffing your face. Your lipstick won't stand a chance with all that pie and mashed potatoes headed your way! Really, Thanksgiving is the hardest hitting holiday: All you can really hope for is a flawless face and the seat closest to the buttered biscuits.

Thanksgiving and the holiday season is perfect for matte formulas, which are great for withstanding heat and a lot of activity (or, you know, demolishing a buffet). With the right types of formulas, your makeup can last through anything. If you're naturally dry, you can make these formulas a little more wearable by mixing them with other products or primer to make them more sheer.

Here are my favorite Thanksgiving-ready makeup items.

1. Primer

Smashbox Photo Finish More Than Primer Dark Spot Correcting, $42.00,

If you're worried about your face melting off as you hover over a bottomless pit of stuffing, apply this before your foundation. If you're naturally a little dry, mix this with your foundation to sheer it out.

2. Concealer

Laura Mercier Secret Camouflage, $26.00,

I love a thick, moisturizing concealer that will stay put. This will make you look wide away, even if you've already taken two pre-meal naps in preparation.

3. Liquid Lipstick

Anastasia Beverly Hills Liquid Lipstick in Potion, $20.00,

Here's a good one if you want to scare off any invasive questions. Really, while this color is a little intense, the formula will last all day and night and comes in a huge range of colors, from punky Potion (above) or a classic red or sweet pink.

4. Setting Powder

Laura Mercier Loose Setting Powder, $37.00,

Press setting powder into your T zone with a beauty sponge and your foundation will be ready for anything.

5. Cream Shadow

Maybelline Color Tattoo 24-Hr Cream Gel Shadow, $6.99,

I love cream shadows as a base primer for shimmery shadows or by themselves. This is a stay put formula, and you can find it at any drugstore.

6. Waterproof Mascara

Estee Lauder; $23;

In the event the pumpkin pie is so beautiful, it moves you to tears or you laugh so hard you cry, this mascara will have you covered.

7. Brow Gel

Anastasia Brow Gel; $22;

This brow gel is the best of the best and will keep all your hard work in place. Because, let's face it, brows are hard work.
