Meghan & Charlie Could Take The Stage Once Again

by Michelle McGahan

The 2016 Grammy nominations were good to Meghan Trainor and Charlie Puth, who both scored nods this year: the "All About That Bass" singer for Best New Artist, and Puth for Song of the Year, Best Pop Duo/Group Performance and Best Song Written for Visual Media. Since the two friends, musical collaborators, and one-time makeout partners obviously made headlines for their tongue-filled performance of "Marvin Gaye" at the 2015 American Music Awards, fans are in dire need to know if history will repeat itself come February at the 2016 Grammys. Will Meghan Trainor and Charlie Puth perform at the 2016 Grammy Awards at all? And if they do, will performance include the kind of makeout sesh that immediately set GIF-makers everywhere into motion? Only time (and a list of 2016 Grammy Awards performers) will tell.

While none of the 2016 Grammy Awards performers have been announced yet, it pretty much goes without saying that both Trainor and Puth will at least attend the show. You know, since it's Music's Biggest Night and both artists are up for awards and all. As for a performance, however, that remains to be seen — though it should be noted that the 2015 Grammys were ALL about the collaborations, and if there is a person alive out there who survived the heavenly bliss that was Ed Sheeran and John Mayer duetting "Thinking Out Loud," I'm here to say that you must be superhuman.

Still, many of the 2015 Grammy collabs were far from traditional, mixing and matching unique pairings like Annie Lennox and Hozier, Sam Smith and Mary J. Blige, and Jessie J and Tom Jones (what?!) If the 2016 Grammys were all about the random duets, there's a chance that Puth and/or Trainor would be matched up with different artists altogether. Or maybe Puth would just perform "See You Again" with Wiz Khalifa, considering that's the track that scored the singer all of his nominations.

Either way, it's extremely doubtful we'd see another makeout sesh from the two young artists. It was a total surprise when it happened on the AMAs — a smart move for both, since it got the entire Internet talking and their kiss trending — but for it to happen again would just seem played out and predictable. Not to mention that the fun-loving AMAs was the perfect ceremony for the shocking moment (and please note the one dude who straight gives them a standing ovation the second they lock lips in the GIF above). The Grammys, however, are definitively more serious and more about the talent of the performers and artists than any one silly or ~shocking~ moment.

Regardless of a Trainor/Puth performance/kiss repeat, fans will still be rooting for their faves to score some golden gramophones that night, so be sure to tune in on Feb. 15 for the results — and any potential Trainor/Puth moments to set shippers hearts afire.
