Foiled... again! The Kylie Jenner Lip Kits were restocked and sold out on the quick yesterday. That marks back-to-back sell outs for the impossible-to-get product. I tried to nab the matte, liquid lipsticks, which come in three suede-like neutrals, each time they became available and got nowhere. It's a major launch and the unobtainability of the lipsticks only serves to make me and Jenner's millions of fans want them even more. That's likely their marketing strategy, to create hype and to nurture a cult-like nature of this product. But it is frustrating.
That said, I do have a solution to this "problem, which will probably be solved when the Lip Kits become widely available and are not so elusive. You can actually get a seriously similar, rich, matte color and texture of the Lip Kits with two awesome and affordable drugstore products. I'm not kidding.
I wandered into Walgreens last night before I went to a rock show at the Gramecy Theater in NYC, thinking I wanted to go with a richer, more statement lip inside a dark club. I got my hands on Revlon's Ultra HD Matte Lipcolor in HD Seduction, which has a pleasant and somewhat floral smell. This velvety but lightweight lippie is dreamy, creamy, and non-drying. It also has the thick-but-not-too-thick consistency of a liquid lipstick.
It's a universal, rosy nude shade that looked nice with my pale skin.
It's such a pretty shade.
The flat wand head allowed me to have total control while applying this rosy nude color. I didn't make a mess despite applying four to five coats.
This lipstick also had a bit of shine upon initial application. But that wore off throughout the day. I do not mind the shine, but I also blotted it down with a tissue in order to be more Jenner-like with my lips and more matte x velvet.
You don't need a lip liner to apply this product. But if you want more Jenner-like definition, you will want to pick up a matching lip liner in the Revlon range to achieve the dramatic outline that she prefers.
The Ultra HD hippies come in eight neutrals, pinks, and reds, so there is a selection of shades to fit your personal preferences.
The product's velvet richness is what makes it appealing. I think it looks better as the day (or night) goes on. Even without liner, my lips were painted nude, plumped, and sexy.
NYX, which is a quality drugstore brand, has its Soft Matte Lip Creams, which are also an alternate option for getting Jenner-like lips. Try 'em to hold you over until you can get your paws on the Kylie Lip Kits. That's what I am doing.
