When Will We Next See Poe Dameron?
THE FORCE AWAKENS SPOILERS BELOW. PROCEED WITH CAUTION. I saw Star Wars: The Force Awakens only a day ago, and I cannot get enough of the three new characters we were introduced to. I will spare you any possible spoiler bits, but I'll let you know that newcomer Daisy Ridley's Rey and John Boyega's Finn were incredible additions to the Star Wars universe, and I cannot wait to see where these stories will take their characters in the future. As for that third character, I've been an Oscar Isaac fan for a while, and his character of Poe Dameron in the film is a brave, witty, and ruggedly handsome badass pilot who made hearts swoon across the world in no time. Naturally, since there is another Star Wars film on the horizon, I wondered whether Poe Dameron will be in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.
In my quest to figure out if Poe would be in Rogue One, I uncovered some interesting details about the film and I am sad to report that the character of Poe Dameron will definitely not be in Rogue One. (Unless there's some time of flash-forward scene, that is.)
Rogue One, which will be released on Dec. 16, 2016, will take place between Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith and Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope. The only facts we know so far are that the film will follow a gang of Rebel fighters who band together to steal the plans for the Death Star. Hmmm, interesting!
So, the first thing I realized is that, given the time frame of this story, Poe would probably not even be alive at this point.
In A New Hope, we meet a young Leia, who is revealed to be Kylo Ren's mother in The Force Awakens. Poe and Kylo Ren look to be of a similar age, so they were likely not even born during the time when Rogue One takes place.
The good news is, we now know that Isaac is signed on for Episode VIII. So while there is more Poe to come, we will have to wait until 2017 to learn more about this mysterious and dashing X-Wing fighter pilot.
