How Yolanda Foster's Kids Are Handling Her Divorce

There is never anything easy about a divorce. No matter who you are, where you live, or how much money you have, separating two families is often one of the most difficult things anyone can go through. And when there are children involved, divorce can become even more challenging and complicated. So, when I heard the news on Dec. 1 that Yolanda and David Foster were divorcing, I thought of their well-being — and then instantly thought of Yolanda’s kids. After four years of marriage and nine years together, there was bound to be some pretty strong emotions going into this divorce — especially for Bella, Gigi, and Anwar, Yolanda’s three children who have known David as their stepfather for the past four years. So, how are Yolanda’s kids handling her divorce from their stepfather, David Foster?

Honestly, from the way it looks to the outside world, they are handling it as well as can be expected. The statements that have come from Yolanda and David Foster’s camps have been statements of mutual respect and love, and I can only hope that that amount of public support has helped Gigi, Bella, and Anwar deal with this separation. The original statement, which was released to PEOPLE on Dec. 1, read:

Sadly we have decided to go our separate ways. We've shared nine beautiful and joyous years together. During that time we experienced love, friendship and the inevitable challenges that come with managing a marriage, careers, blended families and health issues.

In addition, Yolanda’s messages about how she and her children are doing in he wake of the divorce continue to be about the love that they have for each other. In a recent Instagram post, Yolanda shared a picture of her with her children and captioned it, “Love conquers all.” In the picture, she and her three children smile for the camera and hold each other tight.

From the picture, it looks like whatever they are going through in the wake of the divorce has only brought them closer together.

And that closeness is clear from the pictures that Bella and Gigi have posted in the weeks since the news of their mother’s divorce. The two have posted pictures to their Instagram accounts of their mother with captions that are full of love and respect. Gigi posted an old shot of Yolanda during her modeling days that celebrates her mother’s vibrancy and beauty. It’s a touching tribute to the woman who raised her. Bella, too, posted an older shot of her with her siblings and mother with the caption “Forever and ever.”

Clearly the message here is that the love that this family has for each other is what has always and will always hold them together.

So while Yolanda’s three children might be experiencing any number of emotions on their own in the wake of their mother’s divorce from David Foster, it’s clear that they are sticking together and supporting each other through this difficult time.
