Is 'Views From The 6' Coming Out This Month?

by Jennifer Still

I've got a confession to make: I love Drake. I mean, I know that's hardly revolutionary these days, since pretty much everyone loves him, but I really love him. Like, really really. I've been a fan since the release of his first album, Thank Me Later, back in 2010, and I've loved pretty much every single thing he's put out since. That's why I'm basically banging my head against the wall in frustration as we wait for the release of the rapper's new album, Views From The 6. We've known about it for the better part of a year, but much like Rihanna's ANTI, a release date has been elusive and seemingly nonexistent. However, there may be some good news on the horizon, because during his New Year's Eve performance at Miami's E11EVEN nightclub, Drake said Views From The 6 is "coming very soon," which is good news for all of us. But what does "very soon" even mean?

There's been speculation floating around for a while now that Views From The 6 will finally be released in January 2016, and with Drake's most recent announcement, that just might be the case. All the clues are there, and now that Drake is actively talking about the album (despite the fact that he's not really giving us much information about it otherwise) is a good sign. So when can we expect it?

"Hotline Bling" was probably the biggest song of 2016 in terms of cultural relevance. Whether or not you considered yourself a hip hop fan, you've likely heard (and probably loved) the song. It appeared in memes, on Christmas sweaters, and basically on every radio station in every country of the world. It was literally just that good. It set the wheels in motion and got fans excited to hear what Drake would do next. Sure, we had the If You're Reading This, It's Too Late mixtape and his collaborative mixtape with Future, What A Time To Be Alive, and both are great. But they're not Views From The 6, and that's what we're really wanting.

Given Drake's obsession with the number 6, the smartest decision (and the most beneficial to us, since it's only four days away) would be for him to drop Views on January 6, but that's not set in stone. After all, we haven't seen any album artwork or a confirmed track list, but that doesn't mean it's not all being kept under wraps on purpose, so that it's a completely new experience once it's out.

Then again, Drake could just be trolling us, and his comment about releasing Views From The 6 "very soon" could just be a way to keep us on tenterhooks, waiting for something that may never come — or at least not for a while. My money's on the 6, though.
