The 2006 Golden Globes Were A Haven For '00s Style

by Katharine McEntee

When I think 2000s fashion, I think of dresses over jeans, frosted tips, and velour sweatsuits. While the noughties are famed for a fashion faux pas or two — gaucho pants, anyone? — the year that reigned supreme was 2006. It was the haven for early 2000s fashion, and the Golden Globes red carpet proves it. With attendees like then-It Girl Paris Hilton to an eyeliner-wearing Johnny Depp, the red carpet was rampant with early 2000s A-listers and their not-so-subtle fashion ensembles.

While a lot has changed since 2006, especially in the sartorial department, the major stars who walked the red carpet seem to be the same, give or take a few. Back then, a baby-faced Scarlett Johansson solidified her status as a fashion icon, while Anne Hathaway was still figuring it out. Gwyneth Paltrow was pregnant, Natalie Portman had a pixie, and Alanis Morissette was blonde.

While it may be horrifying to look back on our own style choices from the earlier 2000s — I still can’t believe I wore a tie as a belt — there is something nostalgic about seeing celebs on the red carpet not so long ago. Take a stroll down memory lane and scroll down to see the quintessential '00s looks from the 2006 Golden Globes red carpet.

Alanis Morissette looks almost unrecognizable as a blonde on the 2006 red carpet.

As far as I'm concerned, SJP can do no wrong.

Keira K was just as stunning 10 years ago as she is now. Her minimalistic jewelry, tousled up-do, and sleek white dress were pure perfection.

Before Angelina Jolie, Renée Zellweger gave us lots of leg in this high-slit halter dress.

Forget the '90s. The earlier 2000s were full of gems, y'all.
