When Can You Buy Girl Scout Cookies?

by Kat Kuehl

Now that the holidays are over, it's time to look forward to my second favorite time of the year — Girl Scout Cookie season. If you're eagerly awaiting your first taste of Thin Mints and Peanut Butter Patties like me, you might be wondering when you can buy Girl Scout Cookies.

Much like everybody else, I've got a special place in my heart for Girl Scout Cookies. I was even a Girl Scout myself way back in the day. But, in the interest of total honesty, I never actually sold cookies. My parents — who have the tendency to be a little on the overprotective side — were convinced that I would be abducted going door-to-door peddling Do-si-dos. So, instead of encouraging my entrepreneurial spirit, they always opted to just cut a check to the Girl Scout organization instead.

But, even though I never participated in the whole cookie-selling thing, that doesn't mean I can't appreciate the deliciousness that is Girl Scout Cookie season. Just like you, I'm eager to get my hands on that stockpile of goodies. However, waiting for the arrival of this time of year isn't quite like eagerly anticipating Christmas or your birthday — because you never quite know when it's coming.

So, I've done some investigative research to help you determine when you'll be able to indulge in all of your favorites. Buckle up and prepare to dig into these much-anticipated treats.

When can you buy Girl Scout Cookies?

Here's the thing — there really is no official launch for Girl Scout Cookies. Instead, they can only be purchased during your local council's cookie season, which varies from city to city. And, while we all wish we could buy these sweet treats year-round, it's simply never going to happen. Selling cookies is only one of the many programs the organization offers to Girl Scouts. Hence why it's limited to only a six to eight week season.

So, how can you find out when your cookie season starts?

Luckily, it's easy to figure out exactly when you can start buying all of your favorites. You simply need to enter your zip code into the "Find Cookies" search box on the Girl Scouts' website. Submit your search, and you'll immediately find out exactly when cookies go on sale in your area.

Where can you buy cookies?

Now that you know when you can crack open a box of your favorite Girl Scout treats, the next important piece of information you need is where you can find them. I don't work in an office, so I can't purchase cookies from a co-worker's daughter. And, I don't want to look so desperate for cookies that I'm willing to stroll around my neighborhood trolling for someone who's selling them.

Well, the Girl Scouts have thought of everything! That "Find Cookies" search box will not only tell you when you can stock up on your favorite cookies, but will also offer details on booth locations where you can find them.

Even better? Last year, Girl Scouts announced the option to buy cookies online with Digital Cookie 2.0. Much like traditional cookie sales, it needs to be initiated by a Girl Scout, who will invite you to access her personal cookie page. But, from there, this online portal makes it simple to place your order and have your cookies delivered directly to your door. Plus, now you can support that little cousin or your mom's friend's daughter who you've never been able to buy cookies from before. Stocking up on cookies while simultaneously looking supportive and helpful? It's a win-win.
