Who Does Shawn Mendes Play On 'The 100'? Macallan Will Serenade His Fellow Ark Survivors
After the game-changing events of the Season 2 finale, The 100 will return for Season 3 on Thursday night still reeling from the massacre in Mount Weather, the establishment of the survivors of the Ark, and tense relations between the Sky People and Grounders. With so many different factions existing on post-apocalyptic Earth — seriously, the politics could give Game of Thrones a run for their money — there is plenty of room for new characters. But, who will Shawn Mendes play on The 100 ?
First, let's talk about how Mendes ended up on the CW series. The singer actually started out as a fan of The 100 , just like the rest of us, expressing his love of the show on Twitter. He even used the heart eyes emoji, so obviously he's serious about it. Then he tweeted at The 100' s official writer's room Twitter account asking if he could be on the show. Seeing the tweet, The 100 executive producer/showrunner Jason Rothenberg responded with an enthusiastic yes, telling Mendes to give him a call so they could set it up. A couple of months later, Mendes was on the set of The 100 getting ready to be in Season 3, proving that absolutely wonderful things can happen on Twitter.
That's how Mendes landed the role on The 100, so now it's time to figure out what that role will entail. According to Mendes' Instagram post, he'll be playing a character named Macallan, who E! Online described as "a scrappy young Ark survivor" who gets himself into a tough situation that he needs to use his own kind of talents to get out of. Rothenberg also spoke to E! News about working with the pop star, and seems confident that fans will enjoy his appearance.
If you're wondering what that special and different something is, The CW released a clip of Mendes in the Season 3 premiere episode, "Wanheda (Part 1)," featuring the singer using his vocal talents.
Curious about the song Mendes is singing? Hint: It's not one of his own tunes. It's actually a piano cover of "Add It Up" by Violent Femmes. Of course, the clip takes a lot of the mystery out of Macallan, since we now know what tricky situation he gets himself into (attempted theft is still frowned upon even after a nuclear apocalypse). But, there's still a chance Macallan could go out with a bang. I can't wait to see what else Mendes will offer when The 100 Season 3 premieres.
