Something Huge Is Leaving Netflix In Feb.

by Emily Lackey

It’s that time of month again, when the world is just days away from turning the page in their monthly calendars and saying goodbye to January in all of its glory. And with January goes a number of really great movies and television shows that are leaving Netflix in February. It happens every month, regardless of how much I might protest (a.k.a. throw a tantrum that only my Apple TV can hear). Without fail, a new month comes and with it go a number of really great movies from Netflix. But, as Semisonic says, every new beginning comes from some other beginning’s end, because with these departures come a number of really awesome movies to Netflix for the first time.

Still, as excited as I might be to have new material to keep me company on all of those lonely Friday nights, I’m going to miss these old standbys, the movies that I’ve come to love and watch on repeat over the last few months. Or, even if I didn’t, they are movies that I felt comforted by just knowing that they were there, that I had them as options.

But with the new month comes new options, so it’s time to say goodbye to these movies that we loved and usher in a new set of streamable entertainment. Fair warning: the TV series that's leaving is going to hurt. A lot.

Bad Santa

I might not be in a Christmas kind of mood anymore, but I am always in a Billy Bob Thornton kind of mood.

Benny and Joon

Who doesn’t love watching Baby Depp on repeat in all of his sweet, socially awkward glory?

Big Fish

Get the tissues ready for this one, because you will be swimming in your own puddle of tears by the end.

Blue Crush

Because in the middle of winter, one needs two hours of waves, sun, and more blonde hair than is statistically possible.

Doctor Who

Get this one in while you can, otherwise you’ll have no idea what all of your friends are talking about.

Rain Man

Dustin Hoffman at his finest and Tom Cruise pre-Scientology. What’s not to love about that?

Ray

See the movie that won Jamie Foxx an Oscar, and that made us love the musical great even more.

Terms of Endearment

Literally my favorite movie in the world. Literally. Grab some tissues, have the phone ready to call your mom, and enjoy this epic story of one family’s ups and downs.

The Firm

So much Tom Cruise to stream before the end of the month! Seriously, what are you waiting for?

The Hurt Locker

This Oscar-winning film shed a sobering light on America’s involvement in Iraq and Afghanistan. Watch it first if you haven’t already.

The Naked Gun

This ‘90s comedy had us all cracking up as kids (even if we weren’t old enough to get all the jokes). Sneak this one into your next throwback Thursday. Trust me, you’ll be thankful that you did.

The Terminator

This one, unfortunately, won’t be back after the first of February. So get in all that Arnold while you still can.

So get the popcorn ready. Pull out your most comfortable pair of sweatpants. Because you’re going to want to binge your heart out on these awesome movies and shows before they’re gone for good.
