9 Celebrities Who Have Been Vocal About Women Not Needing Makeup
I have always had a "less is more" approach when it comes to makeup, partly because I can’t seem to get used to putting stuff on my face and partly because I never figured out how to apply it (liquid liner is my worst enemy). While the no makeup look is perfectly fine for someone like me who works from home and doesn’t have paparazzi following my every move, it’s not as easy for celebs — who are constantly being photographed — to embrace the no makeup trend.
Luckily, the fear of the world seeing them sans cosmetics hasn't stopped certain celebs from baring their faces. Some bold and beautiful babes are even speaking out on the fact that women don't need to wear makeup, unless they want to.
In a world full of contouring tutorials and baked concealer demos, it's difficult to believe that the no makeup look could still be trending. However, Demi Lovato's famous bare-faced Instagram selfies and Kylie Jenner's recent New Year's resolution to wear less makeup prove that the non-beauty trend is still going strong. While none of these ladies go sans makeup on the regular — I mean, it’s fun to play with eyeshadow and lip colors every now and again — they are surely changing the conversation surrounding makeup.
While I am a sucker for a bold lip every once in a while, these bare beauty quotes are truly inspiring. Scroll down to read some of Hollywood’s leading ladies' reasons as to why women don’t need makeup.
1. Kylie Jenner
In Dec. 2015, Kylie Jenner told Interview Magazine that if it were up to her, “I would never wear makeup, because I honestly hate wearing makeup. Lately, I’ve just been so over it. I feel like I’m way too young to wear such heavy makeup all the time." She followed up this thought on her app, noting, "I just want to like, take my nails off, no hair, no makeup, it’s just too hard to maintain sometimes.”
While Jenner's perfectly-primped look is very on-trend, I can't wait to see her go au naturale in 2016.
2. Lupita Nyong'o
Back in Feb. 2015, Lupita Nyong'o told Lucky Magazine, "My mother didn’t think makeup was necessary, and I don’t think it’s necessary. It’s an accessory." I couldn't agree more!
3. AnnaLynne McCord
AnnaLynne McCord is another celebrity who isn't a huge fan of makeup. In Aug. 2009, she told Seventeen, "I don't like a lot of crazy makeup."
Maybe it's because she had to wear so much makeup as a model, or maybe she just likes to show off her natural beauty. Either way, I'm loving her new look.
4. Drew Barrymore
In April 2013, E! Online reported that Drew Barrymore spoke at Lucky's Fashion And Beauty Blog Conference and said, "Happiness is the best makeup; a smile is better than any lipstick you'll put on."
Although I totally get where she's coming from, I must admit that a swipe of red lipstick does make me happy from time to time.
5. Tina Fey
Comedian Tina Fey expressed her thoughts on beauty in her book Bossypants . She wrote, “If you retain nothing else, always remember the most important rule of beauty which is, who cares?”
While Fey is often known for her quick quips, this quote might just be one of my favorites ever.
6. Demi Lovato
After baring it all in her Vanity Fair photoshoot in Oct. 2015, Demi Lovato told the magazine, "I thought there was something incredible about the idea of no makeup whatsoever, no clothes, and no retouching... It’s empowering and it shows other women you can get to a place where you can overcome obstacles of body image issues."
Lovato is both body pos and beauty pos. You go, girl!
Similar to Barrymore's words of advice, Queen Bey clearly believes that beauty is all about showing those pearly whites.
8. Demi Moore
According to StyleCaster, Demi Moore is a skincare maven, her biggest beauty secret being, "I'm a big believer in that if you focus on good skincare, you really won't need a lot of makeup."
If skincare is the ageless actor's beauty secret, I will definitely be heeding her advice.
9. Kendall Jenner
Whether you like getting dolled up like Kylie or embracing your natural beauty like Kendall, it doesn't really matter as long as you do you.
