The Best Belly Shirts Of Super Bowl Halftime Shows

by Kali Borovic

Super Bowl 50 is almost here and you know what that means — a chance for another fantastic halftime show. Sure, the night might be about football, but the entertainment portion is what really makes the event complete. This year Coldplay and Beyonce will be performing, but the real question is — what will they wear? I can only hope it will be as epic as the array of belly shirts at past Super Bowls, because the skin-bearing tops have been a halftime entertainment staple over the years.

Performers come and go, but there's one thing that's consistent about the Super Bowl halftime show — there will be skin shown. There's been tons of unpredictable moments over the years, like Left Shark and breasts literally popping out of outfits, but the crop tops are one thing that always stays the same. Over the years, everyone from Katy Perry to Gwen Stefani have danced around in their belly bearing shirts, and I can almost guarantee that this year will be the same.

For some reason performers absolutely love to prance around onstage in half shirts. Perhaps it's because it gets hot up there? No matter the era, the genre of music, or the personal style, there's a teeny tiny top out there for everyone. Whether they're rocking a tiny shirt or just a bralette, these crop tops were the real winners of past Super Bowls.

She might have covered up a tad bit with the high waisted skirt, but she and her backup dancers looked beach-ready in their swimsuit-inspired crop tops at Super Bowl XLIX.

Perry also sported this adorable festive crop top for the pre-show.

Usher might have been fully clothed, but his backup dancers were killing it in their monochrome crop tops.

3. Black Eyed Peas

She covered up with black leather, but the cropped football pad-esque shirt earned her an honorable mention.

4. The Who

The Who's Pete Townhend got in the Super Bowl spirit with his half-button makeshift crop top. No backup dancers needed for all this belly-bearing entertainment!

5. Janet Jackson's Backup Dancers

Before the whole exposed breast ordeal, Jackson was all covered up and her backup dancer was showing the most skin.

5. Gwen Stefani

Stefani rocked her signature style during Super Bowl XXXVII. The sparkly bralette top and oversized pants brought just the right balance between personal style and glamour that the show needed.

6. Nelly's Backup Dancers

It wouldn't be a complete early 2000s performance is someone didn't wear a crop top.

7. Shania Twain

Performing at the same Super Bowl XXXVII as Stefani, Twain rocked a spiked bra with a cropped leather jacket for a truly show-stopping outfit.

8. Britney Spears

Would the Queen of '00s pop wear anything besides a crop top? Spears made the early 2000s proud by sporting a cutoff shirt and silver leather pants.

They're not all the prettiest, but they're the best that the Super Bowl had to offer as far as fashion over the years.
