There is something to be said for continuity. Kanye West's Yeezy Seasons 1 and 2 were incredibly similar. Season 2 endured a lot of backlash, much of it unnecessary. But the collections were polarizing, which meant they were successful. There was lots of monochromatic minimalism and oversized basics, as well as form-fitting bodysuits. Yeezy Season 3 is upon us and it has fans of the rapper and designer wondering if he will step out and "wow" us with his new designs. Well, photos he has Tweeted from the fittings for his New York Fashion Week event indicate a shift in aesthetic.
It may be just a few pieces that veer from previous Yeezy Seasons, but still. It appears that West has pushed himself and tried to do something new and different, which is something any artist strives for. He teased a pearl, fringe, and fur outfit that is totally unlike anything we've seen him show before. The rapper and designer also indicated that his wife Kim Kardashian would be wearing this look, which was extremely decorated and ornate.
Let's do a visual comparison and let's start with what we can only assume is a Yeezy Season 3 piece, since it's doubtful West is trolling us super hard with fake photos.
Check out all that decoration! It's a lot of look, yes. But it's also not the simple, straight ahead styles that were prominent in Yeezy Seasons 1 and 2.
Here's West's sister-in-law Kylie Jenner in Season 1. It was a pumped up basic look.
There's hardly any of the intricacy of the piece West tweeted was a "wifey look."
The "wifey" rocked head-to-toe Yeezy.
This fitting look, presumably from Season 3, falls more in line with the street style of prior seasons.
Here's another Season 3 look. It's certainly athleisure, but with more color.
A distressed, tattered sweater is different than the clean lines of much of Seasons 1 and 2.
Judging from this photographic evidence, Yeezy Season 3 will not look exactly like Seasons 1 and 2.
