*NSYNC's First Grammy Awards Outfits Were Insane

by Marc Cuenco

It's tearin' up my heart to say this, but *NSYNC's first Grammy Awards outfits only prove that boy band fashion will be sorely missed at this year's show. As one of the definitive pop groups of the late '90s and early 2000s, the guys first showed up to the Grammys in 2000, where they were nominated for two awards: Best Pop Collaboration with Vocals and Best Country Collaboration with Vocals. Even though Justin Timberlake, JC Chasez, Lance Bass, Joey Fatone, and Chris Kirkpatrick never won a Grammy as *NSYNC, their red carpet ensembles were always coordinated, fun, and the peak of that era's fashion.

The 2000 Grammy Awards red carpet will go down in history as the year that gave us Jennifer Lopez in the green Versace dress — an iconic gown that not only blew everyone's minds, but also changed the Internet. But also in attendance was a boy band that formed in Orlando five years prior to their first Grammys appearance. Known for wearing everything from colorful biker outfits to distressed denim in their music videos and live performances, *NSYNC showed up in black suits and dark leather jackets to the 2000 Grammys, showing that even a quintet of teen heartthrobs can pull off a grown-up style.

Over the next couple of years, *NSYNC returned to the Grammy Awards red carpet in a variety of outfits that showed their evolution from a boy band to a serious, chart-topping pop group.

The guys wore much flashier ensembles — brocade coats and all — at their second Grammys appearance.

Marking what would be *NSYNC's last Grammy Awards appearance, the group decided to go the formal route in black suits. Bye, bye, bye for now, gentlemen. Here's hoping for an *NSYNC reunion at the Grammys soon.
