'90s Grammys Fashion Trends We'll See In 2016

by Emily McClure

The '90s are back, baby! With the 58th Annual Grammy Awards premiering on February 15, I thought this would be a great time to take a trip down memory lane, and what better place to start than with the '90s?! As we know, '90s fashion trends are on the rise, so it will be interesting to see if any of these funky styles will be making a comeback at this year's Grammy Awards. My guess is that they definitely will. In fact, there are several outfits from the 1990s that would still be appropriate, and maybe even considered fashionable by today's standards.

When it comes to fashion, styles are constantly evolving. Designers are constantly being inspired by past trends, and look for ways to make them current. So, when it comes to creating new, fun styles, it's a no-brainer to take inspiration from the '90s. The fashion was fearless and the hair and makeup was carefree. It was daring, quirky, and off-beat. It's a symbolic of the nostalgia we love, and the styles we want to have. While it wasn't always chic, '90s fashion was always a good time. Here are a few Grammy night outfits throughout the 1990s that are trendy enough for 2016.

1. Whitney Houston's Red Dress (1999)

This dress is just seamlessly chic! It's timeless.

2. Michael Jackson's Coat (1994)

Does this remind anyone else of Balmain's famous coat?

3. Diana Ross' Black Gown (1997)

Now, this dress is an absolute showstopper. I can absolutely see any diva wearing a number like this to the 2016 Grammys.

4. Celine Dion's White Dress (1999)

Following the same style as Whitney's, this dress is a knockout. While the high-low gives it a twist, I can completely see this translating to the 2016 red carpet.

5. Shania Twain's Thigh High Boots (1999)

Can't you just imagine Rihanna in these cool boots? They just scream "Bad Girl RiRi."

6. Tia Carrere's Sparkle

It's a night of stars, after all!

7. Toni Braxton's See-Through Sides

So modern. So chic. So good.

See? The '90s are making a comeback.
