How To Copy Gigi Hadid's 'SI' Swimsuit Issue Party Top Knot & A Bold Red Lip Look — PHOTOS

Wearing all black can be somewhat basic, but Gigi Hadid attended a Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue party, according to The Daily Mail, and showed how to make a monochromatic ensemble a little bit more exciting. Spoiler: It's all about the hair and makeup.

The model stepped out for the party on Monday in New York City, and kept it pretty classic in an all black outfit. Hadid wore a long sleeved, plunging sheer top, black skinny pants, and paired them with, you guessed it, black booties and a black clutch. Though she did add a bit of edge with a chain necklace and a choker (also black), it was otherwise a pretty sleek and basic outfit. Though plenty sexy, of course.

Even though her outfit was simple, her hair and makeup were a bit more dramatic. The 20-year-old vamped it up with thick black lashes and a red lip (but kept the rest of her face natural and bare), and wore her hair wrapped into a high ballerina bun. It was more sophisticated than I would have expected her to go for a Sports Illustrated party, but it definitely worked for her. I'm digging this minimalist side.

See, basic does not have to be boring. But check her hair/makeup up close:

So '90s, and she's really not even wearing much other than mascara and lipstick!

High Bun

You don't want your bun to look too polished and perfect — create a messy bun for a more undone elegance like Gigi.

Natural Eyes

To keep the emphasis on your lashes and lips, go for a natural, "no-makeup" eye look.

Defined Lashes

You don't need falsies to get thick, defined lashes.

Red Lips

It seems easy enough, but applying red lipstick like a pro takes some skills.
