Easy GIFing Is Finally Coming To Twitter!

by Megan Grant

GIFs are all the rage and let you perfectly express any emotion or thought — and now, one of the most popular social networks around is finally getting in on the action: Twitter GIF search will now let you attach GIFs to tweets using a library of options. Here's how it's going to work: The social media site is adding a new icon. With one tap, the icon will open a search box, allowing you to peruse GIFs by category or keyword. You can even use them in DMs! This new feature is reportedly going to be released over the next few weeks — the initial announcement came on Wednesday, Feb. 17 via Twitter's official blog — and it will soon be available on iOS and Android, as well. All GIFs are being sourced from Twitter's partners, Riffsy and Giphy.

The new feature is clearly satisfying the demand that Twitter users have shown for the option to use GIFs in tweet. In a blog post, Twitter states that last year alone, users shared over 100 million GIFs. So now, they've teamed up with Giphy and Riffsy to bring GIFs to users faster and easier. It's a smart move on Twitter's part, seeing as how they've been looking for ways to boost engagement. What makes this new feature even cooler is that Giphy will deliver and update their GIFs in real time, meaning that as their own users create GIFs, they'll be added to the database made available for tweeters.

I will certainly be taking full advantage of this new feature. GIFs are the bomb.

I hope that this newest upgrade will really help shine the spotlight on the social media platform. I feel like Twitter often goes unnoticed because it doesn't have all the bells and whistles that Facebook does, or the visual panache of Instagram. But in its simplicity lies its beauty, and I've always loved the no-nonsense approach that Twitter takes to online communication and marketing. Here's to many more tweets to come!
