11 Lyrics From ‘untitled unmastered.’ To Live By

by Emily Lackey

The fact that Kendrick Lamar dropped an entirely new and entirely awesome album into our laps right before the weekend is anything but a coincidence. Dropping an album on a Monday when all there is to look forward to is another week of drudgery just feels like torture to any fan. But the fact that Lamar released untitled unmastered. right before the weekend tells me that he’s interested in our well-being. Or, at least, that he wants these songs to become our weekend jams. And the songs easily could, because when I heard the news that the album was here, I spent the next few hours looking up untitled unmastered. lyrics and singing the songs on repeat until those words were written in my brain.

And let me tell you, these songs are contagious. Mostly because the verses are on point. Not only are these lyrics doing some serious political work, there are so many lyrics from untitled unmastered. to live by. Lyrics that are so on point, you wish you could make them the motto of the rest of your life. So call up a t-shirt printing company. Get your GIF maker ready. These lyrics are everything, and they are definitely words we should all live by.

1. “You Settle For Everything, Complain About Everything”

Let that be a lesson to you: Settling won’t make you happy, it will only make you bitter.

2. “A Brand New Excuse Ain’t Nothing To Me”

Don’t let your excuses get in the way of living your life, friends.

3. “Whatever Makes All Of You Happy”

Live it up. Find the things that make you happy and make those things your life.

4. “And I’m Bossing Up”

I’m such a fan of the fact that Lamar has turned “boss” into a verb. Let’s all do that in our lives, OK?

5. “I Did A Lot Of Dumb Sh*t In My Past / Lord Forgive Me, Hoping I Don’t Relapse”

Kevork Djansezian/Getty Images Entertainment/Getty Images

Um. Yes and yes. Let’s all be aware enough of our pasts so they don’t drag us down.

6. “Sh*t Is Amazing, I’m Feeling My Cravings”

Me, at three in the morning. And on the phone with Domino’s.

7. “It Don’t Hurt If You Try”

Larry Busacca/Getty Images Entertainment/Getty Images

Sometimes the risk of failure or rejection stops us from doing the things that we want to do, but, the truth is, trying never hurt anyone.

8. “Carpe Diem, Seize The Day”

OK, Lamar totally stole this one from Robin Williams, but it’s still a classic one we should all live by.

9. “I Was Different The Moment I Was Invented”

Kevork Djansezian/Getty Images Entertainment/Getty Images

You’re a firework, baby, and don’t you ever forget it.

10. “Before You Poke Out Your Chest, Loosen Your Bra”

I mean, practical advice right here.

11. “You’re Talented, And Can Handle It”

ROBYN BECK/AFP/Getty Images

Best rhyme, ever, if you ask me, but also something to remind yourself of whenever you start to feel that self-doubt creeping in.

So there you have it. Take these lyrics into the weekend, into your life, and let them lead you. You’ll be so much better off with Kendrick Lamar as your guide.
