Here's What's Next For Thorpe On 'Grey's Anatomy'

by Kelly Schremph

Meredith and Derek. Derek and Meredith. These two have been the central love story of Grey's Anatomy ever since the show first premiered. Even now, in the wake of Derek's tragic death, it's hard to think of one character without immediately thinking of the other. So when the series decided to give Meredith a new love interest in the form of Dr. Will Thorpe, it may have been a difficult pill for viewers to swallow, yet there's no denying the palpable chemistry that exists between the two of them. And now that his four-episode arc is coming to close, fans are more curious than ever to know if Thorpe could return to Grey's Anatomy somewhere down the line. "Well, I guess we'll just have to wait and see what Meredith says," Scott Elrod, who plays Thorpe, teases to Bustle during a recent interview. "I'd be honored if they asked me to stay around."

However, based on this week's promo, Thorpe's budding romance with Meredith is about to take a very upsetting turn that ends with her screaming at him to get out of her house. So what exactly happened to cause this shocking turn of events? Elrod couldn't go into specifics, of course, but hopes that fans won't be too quick to make him out to be a bad guy.

"The promo kinda leads into a nice little drop off at the front door," he explains. "Then there's a little bit of a predicament, whether it be a misunderstanding or a circumstance of a situation that Meredith finds herself in, but yeah ... I think it's best if we just wait and see what happens Thursday night."

Sounds rather ominous right now, but I have a feeling that not everything is as it seems. Promos like this always have a tendency to make things look one way in order to throw the audience off to what's really going on.

And it's worth noting how hesitant Elrod is to point the finger of blame at anyone. Like he said, this could just be a misunderstanding that quickly gets cleared up. And, if that's the case, then his departure from the show may not be so permanent. But whether you're a fan of Thorpe's character or not, he's serving a very important part in Meredith's life. He's making her want to put herself back out there in the dating world again and showing her that she doesn't have to live her life alone. So even though he's not McDreamy, he may just be the McBlessing that she needs.
