This Avenger Was Missing From The MTV Movie Awards

The MTV Movie Awards always brings stars together for a good time, but some of Hollywood's biggest and brightest still like to keep us guessing. And for awhile before Sunday night's award show (which pre-taped on Saturday night), many were wondering if one Marvel star would make an appearance. But unfortunately, he did not — so just where was Robert Downey, Jr. at the MTV Movie Awards? The Captain America: Civil War star seemed all set to make an appearance, but sadly, he wasn't actually present at the 2016 awards.

In 2015, Downey, Jr. accepted the MTV Generation Award and the original Avengers (Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Mark Ruffalo, Jeremy Renner, and Scarlet Johansson) joined him onstage as a tribute. It seems like this would give him a permanent ticket to the MTV Movie awards that he would be likely to take advantage of, but apparently that's not the case. He didn't present any awards at the 2016 show, and wasn't there to intro Civil War footage alongside some of his co-stars in the movie. Still, his absence was a bit of a surprise, considering that Downey, Jr. and Ruffalo are nominated together for Avengers: Age of Ultron for Best Fight, and the cast is nominated for Best Ensemble. (Ultron is also nominated for Best Film.)

Plus, with Evans presenting an exclusive clip from Civil War , you'd think that his movie rival would probably want to be there to represent his team. Yet disappointingly, that was not the case, although the reasons why are certainly understandable. Downey, Jr. is probably super busy right now promoting Civil War and repping Team Iron Man at press events, and while Evans is certainly keeping a hectic schedule as the rep of Team Cap, the duo are likely splitting up promotional duties between them. Still, while Downey, Jr. not being at the MTV Movie Awards makes some sense, it's nonetheless disappointing to not have both sides of Civil War in one place.
