One of the world's most beloved models was looking a little different at the 25th annual MTV Movie Awards on the evening of April 9, and the hair gods couldn't be happier. Gigi Hadid's bangs stole the show, and although InStyle reports that the hair transformation might be real or faux, I cannot help but hope the fringe is a new and semi-permanent move.
I mean, the look is totally retro chic, but with contemporary elements that take it straight from '60s mod into 2016 it-girl status. The bangs look like a cross between Audrey Hepburn's fringe and Rooney Mara's á la Carol, and the combination is simply stunning on the 20-year-old.
Hadid rocked a pinstripe suit to accompany the new 'do. Although any red carpet run by MTV tends to facilitate more experimental, out-there looks as opposed to, say, the Academy Awards, it's still more than a little usual for women to be seen in dresses come awards shows. I adore the menswear-inspired ensemble Hadid chose to sport instead, which was much more statement-making than a springtime floral, IMO.
The model kept her beauty look simple, rocking nude lips seemingly inspired by Kylie Jenner and a smoky eyeliner look on her waterline. All in all, however, it was the bangs that really made this appearance sartorially memorable.
If you ask me, the bangs are just the right amount of shabby. There's a messiness to their aesthetic that keeps Hadid looking a little less polished, and a little more cool. I can totally imagine a young Winona Ryder sporting a similar style with her quintessential '90s pixie cut.
How cool can one human possibly get?
With her honey highlights and kick-ass suit, Hadid nailed the you-do-you aesthetic MTV ceremonies are known for. Here's hoping the bangs are not remotely faux — because they're just too good to give up.
